Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
Hey Pardon My Take listeners, you can find every episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. When we were going on a winter vacation, we were in a sleeping cart on the train. And there was also a restaurant cart that had all the food and also snacks.
Vapaus matkustaa raiteilla. VR. Yhteisellä matkalla. On today's part of my take, presented by DraftKings, we have Joel Klatt in studio. Awesome, awesome interview with him. He's just the best dude ever.
We talk college football, his path to broadcasting, some unbelievable minor league baseball stories. We're also going to do NFL Week 11 picks and preview. We got Jerry's Fantasy Minute. We have our bets, our best bets. We've got a lot of stuff going on. We've got Firefest. We've got Thursday Night Football. It's all brought to you by Game Time. Hank, what game are we trying to go to this week?
We're trying to go to the fuck. What? I saw Hank put his phone down. There's a little foreshadow for later on in the episode. Oh, no. No. I saw it happening. It was like watching a car crash. Hank. Zach, you got one for me? Zach, you got one for me. Go ahead, Zach. Zach, give me a game. He doesn't have game time. NFL is in full swing.
Tailgates back stands that buzz before kickoff, but getting in nightmare cues, price jumps, getting logged out mid click. All you want is to be there. Beer in hand, losing your voice with the crowd. The game time app gives the advantage back to fans. The hack for unlocking amazing tickets and experiences in a few taps. It's incredibly easy to use.
The game time guarantee means you can trust you'll get 100% authentic tickets on time and at the best price. Plus, fees are always included, so what you see is what you pay. Last one. It's been a good run. Packers and Giants, $100 GameTime app. Okay, so take the guess. We're going to buy NFL tickets with GameTime. Download the GameTime app. Create an account.
Use code PMT for $20 off your first purchase. Terms apply. Again, create an account. Redeem code PMT for $20 off. Swipe, tap, ticket, go. Download the GameTime app today. Okay, let's go. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Welcome to part of my take presented by DraftKings. The crown is yours. Today is Friday, November 14th.
And Hank, the New England Patriots have now won eight in a row, and they beat the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. Also, for anyone who is going to be listening to the whole show, which I hope everyone is, when we get to the Fyre Fest and we talk about game time, you might want to just go back and listen to the game time ad at the beginning of the show. So we're seeing Wally Pip.
Some incredible foreshadowing took place because we recorded it. So we're saying Plasko Burris. We recorded the entire back half of the show earlier today, and then we're here right now after Thursday Night Football. I love you, Hank. I love you, too. Okay. The success went to his head a little bit after Thursday Night Football. Okay, so let's talk about the game. Ugly. Ugly wins are still wins.

Chapter 2: What insights are shared about Thursday Night Football?
Yeah. So overall, you just chop it up to Thursday night sluggishness. And you take the win and you move on. There you go. Yeah, that's fair. And memes, are you... I mean, you competed. You're not mad at Hank. We competed. I think they just need a quarterback. People were saying... People were tweeting at me. They were like, what about the drops? What about this?
It was just like, there's certain things that he does that a good, competent quarterback fixes. Like... They're driving down the field, four minutes left. They're not getting on the ball. They're not getting guys where they need to be. A competent quarterback gets you in the end zone in under a minute there. Correct.
If you were to make a blame pie and you were to divvy up, what are the biggest pieces for the blame? Is it mostly quarterback, coaching, facilities, the media? How do we assign blame? Well, it's owner one. Biggest piece? Who's on the Epstein emails today. Ooh. Just wanted to throw that out there. Wait, question? Yes. Was he on a list, or did somebody write his name in an email?
Wrote his name in an email. Oh, okay. I'm hoping that ends up on a list. We don't want to get sued. Yeah, allegedly. But it was in an email. It was in an email. But I'd go owner first.
Chapter 3: How do the hosts analyze the upcoming NFL Week 11 games?
Yep. You just have to give it to the quarterback second. Mm-hmm. And then... Former GMs. Former GM Joe Douglas and Robert Salah. But no, no. You can't blame Robert Salah. Bob Salah got a raw deal. He got fired in five games. Yeah, it was... Did you see the news today about Woody Johnson, the team report cards? Yeah.
So the NFL has filed a grievance with the NFL PA asking them to stop doing the team report cards at the end of every season. And the push was instigated allegedly by Woody Johnson because he called them totally bogus. And it has nothing to do with the fact that he received bad grades. Yeah, you could just spend the money on the facilities.
So apparently they took the feedback that the players on the Jets gave him last year, and he actually went the other way. Like, they complained about the food. Oh. And so then they made their food worse. Punishment. Yeah, punishment for giving him a bad grade. Snitches get stitches. Yeah. What do you think about that, Mames?
He called it bogus, but his major complaint was just that the culture around the facility, it doesn't seem like they're trying to win. Yeah. Yeah. The Soylent Green factory owner says health inspectors are bogus. Yeah. One of those situations. Yeah. I mean, the Jets facilities are nice. Yeah.
But the whole, like, they're not trying to win, that's backed up by... I mean, Woody Johnson said it himself. I'm not a good owner. He's just an empath. Yeah, no, he fucking sucks. He was on his phone in the owner's box reading Twitter. There are people defending Justin Fields in your... I saw a couple. People were dropping pads. Listen, I like Justin Fields as a person.
I hope he's a backup for a long time and gets paid. But yeah, until you have him on your team, you can't fully... In theory, he's got everything. But then you watch him and you're like, okay, there's something. It's just not there the way it needs to be for a starter in the NFL. Yeah, but at least on the Bears, he had some games of promise. Yeah, but what you're describing...
what you're describing the end of game situation where it's like we got no shot you know it's just oh we have to pass oh this isn't going to work it just falls apart that's a problem but he has made a lot of money so I'm happy for him there and he was an incredible quarterback at Ohio State and a great dude I think Josh McDaniel he needs more respect I've been saying that.
He is a great offensive coordinator. And we definitely whiffed on Wednesday's show when we were talking about retread head coaches, when we were talking about Dayball getting another shot somewhere. McDaniels, he is that guy that got the second shot. He's going to get another shot. Yeah, it didn't go well. None of the shots have gone well. I don't think he wants another shot. You don't think so?
No. I agree with Hank. I feel like he's in that. He's in the perfect spot. He shouldn't want another shot, but I feel like in five years, I would not be surprised if he was head coach for another year or two. Did you see the Giants list that's been floating around and Steve Spagnuolo's on there? It's like, why would he want it? Why would he want to coach? Head coach again. Yeah.

Chapter 4: What are the current frustrations of Packers fans?
I don't think he's – I wouldn't put him on the hot seat. I do think he's on the hot seat. You think Packers, they expect more? I think Packers fans are getting restless. And Matt Flohr even said he was just like, no one is taking it harder than me. And I thought about it. I was like, I actually don't know if that's true.
I bet you there's like a dude sitting right now in Wisconsin who the Packers are his only good positive thing in his life, and he's probably taking it harder than Matt Flohr. Not that Matt LaFleur's not taking it hard, but I bet you there's at least a few Packers fans that are, in fact, taking it harder than the head coach of the Packers. Steve Avery. Yeah. You know what I mean?
There's definitely some dude who's just like, this is the only thing I enjoy in life is watching the Packers on Sunday. He's probably taking it harder than Matt LaFleur right now. Yeah, a lot of Packers fans probably fall into that category.
Chapter 5: How does the Bengals defense impact their season?
Yeah, he said, I promise that you're not as frustrated as I am. I bet you there's a couple guys out there that are more frustrated. Yeah, it's not true. Not true. The Giants, I think that they put...
their kicker on ir finally right so hopefully they're done for weird kicker injuries this season but the kicking game for the the packers isn't exactly great either no it's not and i the thing is if the packers were like leading the nfc right now that would be the question everybody would be talking about in green bay but they got to fix the small stuff before they fix that justin tucker justin tucker just eligible recently justin tucker justin tucker
Justin Tucker? Think about it. By the way, this is – so if the Giants beat the Packers at – if they're plus seven or above, it will be the biggest upset in a first game for an interim head coach since 2011 when the Chiefs actually beat the Packers as 11-point underdogs. And I was looking at that game. I was like, is there any way the Giants can replicate this? I don't think so because –
That was when Todd Haley got fired, and that might be an all-time guy we fucking hate gets fired, everyone's pumped situation. Yeah, I agree with that. I think Kafka might be too smart to be an effective interim head coach.
Chapter 6: What are the playoff implications for the Jaguars and Chargers?
I think he'll have success down the line here.
Yes.
He doesn't get the rah-rah, I'm a fat guy running through a wall. Right. He would watch an interim head coach take over and be like, this is highly irregular. I'm not sure how this translates to winning. Yeah, and it seemed like everyone in the Giants liked Brian Dable. Yeah. So you don't get that bump. You don't get like, hey, we fired Brian Kelly or Todd Haley. Thank God that guy's gone.
Do you think Brian Dable watches this game? Hmm. No, because Jackson Dart stopped playing. Yeah, I agree. If Jackson Dart was playing, he probably would watch it. I agree. He's probably down in Alabama already. He might be down in Alabama already. Yeah, he might be. Or maybe back in Buffalo. Yeah, maybe back in Buffalo. Okay, next game. Bengals, Steelers. Steelers are minus 5.5.
Over-under is 49.5. I think the Steelers are going to win this game. Okay. And I think they're going to cover the spread. Okay. Do you have this as a hungry dog? The Bengals defense is so, so, so, so bad. There have been five games this year where a team has given up 500 plus yards of offense. So the defense has given up 500 plus yards of offense. Three of those five games are from the Bengals.
So the Bengals have more games where they've given up 500 plus yards of offense than the entire NFL combined. That's crazy. It's nuts. So what's the, what's the fix for Aaron Rogers looking old and looking like he doesn't want to play football anymore. And the Steelers being stuck in mud. It's the Bengals defense. Yeah. I mean, I know Tomlin is afraid of Flacco. Yeah.
Flacco has historically been the best quarterback against the Steelers over the last 15. I think he's 12 and 13 in his career against the Steelers. Uh, which is more than any other starting quarterback since 2008, back when Flacco was drafted. No other quarterback since then has more than seven wins versus Pittsburgh.
So I do understand why he would be a little gun-shy around Flacco, but I do agree. I think that the Bengals' defense is just historically atrocious, dogshit. And the Steelers might have gotten... Maybe they got better on defense. I don't know. A little bit. So they got Asante Samuel Jr. Yeah. So he's going to be there. Now they have, I count, four sons on the Steelers. You've got the Haywards.
Porter. Porter. Joey Porter Jr. and Asante Samuel Jr. Yeah. Good for them. And what happened to Asante Samuel Jr.? He had a spinal tap? He had spinal fusion surgery. I actually read that the doctor that did the surgery is the Steelers doctor. Dr. David Onkonkwo. So that's good. Yep. They got a little synergy there. Some inside information. Yeah.

Chapter 7: What challenges do college football programs face in hiring coaches?
It's Texas Tech. That's great for the sport. And it's going to put these open jobs in a real bind. I think Penn State's in a bind right now. I think Auburn's in a bind right now. It's like, who are you going to hire? Yeah.
Chapter 8: Who are the potential coaching candidates for Penn State?
If you were Penn State, who would you be looking at right now? That's a great question. Thank you. It really is. Thank you. It really is. Because the SEC openings are so obviously, it's like, well, we're going to try to get Lane. Right. And Penn State, it's not as obvious. I think what happened at Penn State is that they felt like they could get Kurt Cignetti. And so they made the move.
And then immediately, Indiana just is like, boom, 11.6 per year. And it's like, whoa. And the reason I feel that way is that I don't think Penn State was going to go with the search firm. And then now they have a search firm. So it's like there's now two different strategies that have been played out at Penn State. Okay, so I'm dancing around your question.
Who would I target or who do I think they're going to target? I guess who would you target and then who do you think they're – we can do both. Okay, so if it was me, I would call Brian Kelly, although that's not very popular. I would call Pat Fitzgerald, although there's whatever you want to call it. I think Pat Fitzgerald, he is going to get hired by a big school, and I think that he should.
And he should. He's one of the best college football coaches I've ever been around. It's a shame that he's not in right now. I think he's going to get in in this cycle, and whoever gets him is going to be really lucky. I'll throw out another name that I think is fascinating is Jim Mora at UConn. He's doing a hell of a job, and if you actually look at what he did at UCLA –
and what ucla is historically it's like okay that guy can coach and he's doing a heck of a job at yukon they just beat duke last week and then the last name i would throw out there and and everyone in ohio wants to hit me over the head when i say this but brian hartline yeah i would call brian hartline can i can i give you one more name yeah and it's it probably wouldn't happen because i think unfortunately penn state's in a weird spot where they have to hire someone that everyone immediately is like wow that's great yeah i i
Fran Brown has a down year right now with Syracuse, but that guy can recruit the hell out of football, and he knows the area. He's from New Jersey. He coached at Temple. That's a guy. It would probably not be popular, but I bet you with Penn State's resources, he would make them a winner. Here's what's fascinating to me. I get in these conversations.
I was just on with Coward this week, and he's talking about, like, you've got to have a tried-and-true winner and a guy that's been a head coach before. And I'm like, time out. And unfortunately, I didn't think of this because I'm not, like, quick enough. But afterwards, I was like, wait, wait, wait. The three coaches who have won national championships –
In college football, are Kirby Smart, Dabo Sweeney, and Ryan Day. None of them had head coaching experience before they got the job where they ultimately won a national championship. You would put Dan Lanning in the elite category. You would put Lincoln Riley in the elite category.
There are so many guys that didn't have head coaching experience before they got a job where they were ultimately an excellent head coach. Yeah, and not only that, winning the press conference does nothing. No, it doesn't. More schools should wake up, especially this year, if you look around the landscape. We talked about Cignetti, Clark Lee, all that stuff.
