John Massigno is laying it on the line about Pompey's hiring and firing strategy compared to other championship clubs.
Level of rival spending is what we talked about in the summer. All of a sudden, a couple of our targets go for £4.5 million or £5 million. We have real challenge on hands, which is positive. It's nothing new. And it's something which has been going on now for the 18 months we've been in the championship. It's just something we've got to deal with.
Chapter 2: How does Pompey's hiring strategy compare to other championship clubs?
We have to be very smart about how we do things and it's why we sometimes have to take gambles, take punts on players, and they don't work out for us. That is going to happen for us, because we have to be a bit braver, and we have to be slightly different to the way other clubs operate.
It makes me feel we have a real challenge on our hands which is a positive, we have to embrace it, and keep building. The only way we're going to get to those sort of levels of spending, is if we stay in the league and keep building on what we've managed to do over the past 18 months. It just increases the level of the challenge.
We know some of the clubs around us are going to have that kind of spending power. We're in a slightly different boat.
