Why do most SLPs feel stuck with low salaries and rising expenses?

Jena Castro-Casbon 0:57
The problem is that in most traditional SLP settings like schools, hospitals, and early interventions, salary increases are few and far between. If your expenses keep increasing, but your salary remains the same. That's a problem. So how can you earn more money as an SLP? Well, I think the best way is by adding an additional income stream. And today I'm going to talk about three ways to do that. I'm Jenna Castro-Kasbon, speech language pathologist, business coach, and creator of the Start Your Private Practice System. And I'm on a mission to turn stuck SLPs into successful private practitioners. If you're tired of dealing with high productivity requirements, high caseload sizes, and low pay, it's time to take control of your professional, personal, and financial life and finally get the freedom, flexibility, and financial abundance that you deserve by working with private clients in your own practice.

How can identifying a specific expense or financial goal create a clear income target?

Jena Castro-Casbon 2:26
Today I want to talk to you about how to earn more money as a speech language pathologist by tapping into the concept of multiple streams of income. We have to get creative about this because you may be limited by how much your job is willing to pay you. So rather than sit around and wait for your employer to notice how hard you're working and reward you financially for it, you're gonna start to take matters into your own hands and follow what I tell you to start generating additional income for your family right now. You have a master's degree. You should be earning like it. You should have enough money coming in to pay off your student loans or save up for your kids' college or do that kitchen renovation you've been wanting to do or even take an amazing trip with your spouse or your family.
Jena Castro-Casbon 3:16
But if you don't have extra money coming in and you don't see how any of that's gonna happen anytime soon based on your current SLP salary, it's time to do something about it.

What are the three extra‑income options for SLPs and why are MLMs and bartending not ideal?

Jena Castro-Casbon 3:26
And adding an additional stream of income is the easiest and fastest way to make it happen. I always say create opportunities, don't wait for them. Create Don't wait for

Why is seeing private clients the best additional income stream for SLPs?

Jena Castro-Casbon 3:41
So the first thing that I want you to do is to identify an expense that you want to pay off or a financial goal that you have to save for. And I want you to know exactly how much you need to earn extra per month to cover that. And then what you're gonna do is to create an income stream that will support that goal. Let's take a student loan payment, for example. Say that you owe $600 per month for your student loan. Right now, that's probably taking a huge chunk out of your SLP salary. So instead, let's focus on how you can earn an extra $600 per month and earmark that money to cover your payment. So you have a few options here. You could join an MLM, like Rodan and Fields, for example. It's pretty popular right now.

The sad truth is, is that seventy three percent of people who participate in network marketing opportunities either lose money or make no money.
