She's been an SLP for 12 years, but her journey into the profession actually started as a child when she started receiving speech therapy herself for dysfluency. Like many SLPs, Esmeralda experienced burnout while working in the schools. She wanted more autonomy, flexibility, and a renewed sense of passion for her career. Yes. So my name My name is my name is Esmarel Destanches. I am located in Chicago and my private practice is bilingual and brilliant speech therapy.
I am so excited to have you on the show today because I have gotten to know you a little bit in the Grow Your Private Practice program. And I cannot wait to share with everybody what your private practice looks like these days. But before we do that, can you please talk a little bit about how you got started in the profession?

for having me. I truly appreciate it. So I really do have quite the story to tell. I am a person who stutters and at this moment of my life I truly, truly, truly embrace it. I did not, I did not always bend. So I knew nothing about speech therapy growing up. I started speech therapy during my second year of schooling when I was nineteen years old. And when I began speech therapy, I learned about all of the different ways that speech language pathologists help people communicate. And I truly fell in love with the field. I wanted to help others like me better communicate. And ever since then, I was them fully immersed in the field.
