What is the host’s introduction and why is private practice now easier for clinicians?

Jena Castro-Casbon 0:00
Starting a private practice isn't what it used to be. Today's clinicians are starting private practices much quicker, easier, and cheaper than before. And they aren't guessing their way through it or getting stuck in analysis paralysis, they're following a tried and true roadmap in order to save time, money, and frustration. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel or struggle to figure out how to start a private practice on your own. We've helped thousands of SLPs and OTs through this process and now we want to help you too. For a limited time, I'm offering a free copy of our private practice roadmap, specifically for SLPs and OTs who are curious about private practice and want to see what the journey looks like.

Welcome back to another episode of the Private Practice Success Stories Podcast. I'm your host, Jenna Kester Kasbon, and I'm so excited for you to meet today's guest, Heidi Miller. Heidi is a speech language pathologist and the founder of HMS and Associates, a private practice with three locations across New Jersey. Here's what makes her story so relatable. Heidi didn't start out with a grand vision of a multi-location practice. She She started small, like really small, house to house, just a few days a week with her own young kids at home and a clear sense of what she was not willing to give up.

One of the things that I love most about Heidi's story Is how she kept choosing her family even as the practice grew. There's a moment where she shares in this episode about something that her young son said to her after school one day and what she did the very next week because of it. That single decision tells you almost everything you need to know about how Heidi has built this thing. This is a conversation about slow intentional scaling, about what happens when you double down on the things that you are genuinely. great at instead of trying to be everything to everyone. Today, Heidi has a very popular private practice with lots of people working with her and serving tons of clients. And she has that work-life balance and time for her family built in.

If you're a private practitioner or one in the making, you're in the right place, so let's get started. Аре, совей, плитка, я правда практич?

Sure, my name is Heidi Miller. My location is in New Jersey. I have three locations in New Jersey, Florin Park, Park Ridge, and most recently Oakland, New Jersey.
Jena Castro-Casbon 3:38
Nice. Okay. I love that. And so tell everyone the name of your practice. The name of my practice
Heidi Miller 3:42
is HMS and Associates.
Jena Castro-Casbon 3:43
So Heidi, I am so excited to do this because you know, I've seen you online, I've kind of known about you, but I really what I don't know and what our listeners don't know either is like how did you get started in private practice? How did you go from, you know, just kind of a regular SLP who maybe had some private practice aspirations, maybe didn't? I don't know, you're gonna tell us, to having three locations and, you know, a pretty sophisticated practice. So take us back to the beginning. How did you get started in the field and when did you first start thinking about private practice?
