What inspired the host to bring Ebony back for another episode?

Jena Castro-Casbon 0:00
Starting a private practice isn't what it used to be. Today's clinicians are starting private practices much quicker, easier, and cheaper than before. And they aren't guessing their way through it or getting stuck in analysis paralysis, they're following a tried and true roadmap in order to save time, money, and frustration. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel or struggle to figure out how to start a private practice on your own. We've helped thousands of SLPs and OTs through this process and now we want to help you too. For a limited time, I'm offering a free copy of our private practice roadmap, specifically for SLPs and OTs who are curious about private practice and want to see what the journey looks like.

Ebony Williams is a speech language pathologist in private practice based in North Carolina. She started her private practice with one client, as we all do, but now she has grown her practice to serve 460 clients in just a few years. Ebony was on the podcast once before in an episode that was very popular and was all about daycare screenings. And now that some time has gone by and Ebony's business has grown even more. I knew that I had to invite her back for another episode. In this episode, she talks about how she started her private practice on a shoestring budget, how she thinks about investing in her business, an update about how daycare screenings have been a big contributor to her growth, her thoughts and suggestions on hiring and retaining staff, and her recent 40 under 40 award.

We had some connection issues during the recording. So even if the audio quality of this episode isn't as good, the content is gold. So make sure that you listen. Ebony is a force of nature and there's so many value bombs throughout this episode. If you have big dreams for your private practice, this episode is a must listen, so stay tuned. I'm Jenna Castro-Kasbon, speech language pathologist, business coach, and creator of the Start Your Private Practice System. And I'm on a mission to turn stuck SLPs into successful private practitioners. If you're tired of dealing with high productivity requirements, high caseload sizes, and low pay, it's time to take control of your professional, personal, and financial life and finally get the freedom, flexibility, and financial abundance that you deserve by working with private clients in your own practice.

So before we dive in, can you please share your name, your location, and the

name of your private practice? So I'm Ebony Williams. I am the owner and speech pathologist with Affinity Therapy Services, and I'm located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, right outside of Fort Bragg. So Ebony.

This isn't going to be a great episode because this is actually the second time that you have been on the show. And I remember the first time that you were on the show, you shared an amazing strategy for picking up clients at mass screenings, right? You went from zero to 26 clients using the strategy and you shared it. But the problem was that we did that interview on March 8th. 8th, 2020. So right as the pandemic was starting was right when we had shared this awesome strategy, which is an in-person kind of a strategy, right? And so what I would love to hear is what happened in terms of your growth, right? You had just gotten started and then you started to grow, and but then the pandemic happened. So fill in the listeners.

about what the last two and a half years has been like for your practice.
Ebone Williams 4:16
So March 8th was a week before everything shut down. Surprisingly, I did not slow down though at that time. Because the mass screenings really helped, a lot of therapists were not willing to go into the environment any longer.
