Why did Olivia decide to start a private practice on her homestead?

Jena Castro-Casbon 0:00
Starting a private practice isn't what it used to be. Today's clinicians are starting private practices much quicker, easier, and cheaper than before. And they aren't guessing their way through it or getting stuck in analysis paralysis. They're following a tried and true roadmap in order to save time, money, and frustration. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel or struggle to figure out how to start a private practice on your own. We've helped thousands of SLPs and OTs through this process, and now we wanna help you too. For a limited time, I'm offering a free copy of our Private Practice Roadmap, specifically for SLPs and OTs who are curious about private practice and want to see what the journey looks like.

Olivia Rae Jones is a speech-language pathologist who wanted to gain as much experience as possible in various SLP settings before pursuing private practice. Olivia lives on a family homestead in Wisconsin, and most of the population in her area are traveling 45 minutes north or south to receive services. Olivia used to commute 45 minutes to work each way, but between the pandemic and having young kids, she knew that she needed to make a shift to have more time with her family and was inspired to serve her local community. I got to know Olivia first as a Start Your Private Practice student, and then she leveled up into the Grow Your Private Practice program.

Olivia set a goal for herself. 20 clients, and then followed what we teach in the programs to get herself there, and she's got lots of room to grow. In this episode, she shares about her recent resignation from her job, where she gets her clients, the home office that she's building as part of their recent renovation, and how she eventually wants to create a multidisciplinary clinic with multiple clinicians to serve her community locally. For Olivia, it's all about flexibility and family. If those two reasons are why you want to start your own private practice and you want to see how one of our students has done it, this is a must-listen episode, so stay tuned. I'm Jenna Castro-Casbon, speech-language pathologist, business coach, and creator of the Start Your Private Practice system, and I'm on a mission to turn stuck SLPs into

Alright, so before we dive in, can you please share your name, your location and the name of your private practice?
Olivia Rae Jones 3:19
Hi, I'm Olivia Rae Jones. I'm located in Janesville, Wisconsin, and my practice is Marigold Speech Pathology Services.
Jena Castro-Casbon 3:27
Okay, so I've gotten to know you in the Start Your Private Practice program and then you pretty quickly like moved into the Grow Your Private Practice program because like you're driven. You had a goal and you wanted to go for it. And so before we talk about what your private practice is like now, which listeners is fantastic, can you take everyone back and talk about like a little bit about your early career and when did you start thinking about private practice? Okay.
Olivia Rae Jones 3:54
Sure. So I actually started thinking about private practice when I was in grad school or even maybe in undergrad. It was pretty early on. And I went out to do just that. I wanted to gain as much experience as I possibly could in all different areas and become very well-rounded since I didn't really have a niche right away. I didn't really know... what I wanted to get into. So my first job was with a hospital system that had... My home base was in skilled nursing, an in-house skilled nursing facility.
