Starting a private practice isn't what it used to be. Today's clinicians are starting private practices much quicker, easier, and cheaper than before. And they aren't guessing their way through it or getting stuck in analysis paralysis, they're following a tried and true roadmap in order to save time, money, and frustration. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel or struggle to figure out how to start a private practice on your own. We've helped thousands of SLPs and OTs through this process and now we want to help you too. Haley Houston is a speech language pathologist who has a solo private practice, which is called Honey Speech Therapy Services, located in Vidalia, Georgia. She started her private practice after a series of both professional and personal challenges, including juggling jobs in both private practice and the schools, navigating her son's medical needs, and feeling emotionally unsupported in her toxic workplace. Eventually, a pivotal moment during a school meeting pushed her to take control of her future and create a business that worked for her life. I got to know Haley during her time in the Grow Your Private Practice program, and it has been so incredible to watch her grow from someone who wasn't even sure if private practice was the right path to now running a full, thriving caseload completely on her own terms.
What triggered Hayley to realize she needed to leave her toxic job?
In this episode, she talks about how she went from feeling burned out and overwhelmed to becoming a confident private practice owner with more balance, flexibility, and joy. In both her work and personal life. She shares what it was like to start her business from scratch in a small town and how she learned how to lean on local referrals and also Facebook marketing to fill her caseload quickly. If you've been thinking about starting a private practice but you're feeling stuck, burned out, or unsure if you can make it work in your area, especially if you're totally starting from scratch, then this is a Must listen episode. Haley's story is proof that if she can do it, you can do it too. So stay tuned.

Before we dive in, can you please share your name, your location, and the name of your private practice?
My name is Haley Houston. I live in Vidalia, Georgia, and my practice is called Honey Speech Therapy Services.
So Haley, I'm so excited to be with you today because you have a little bit different of a story in that you started your private practice from nothing and now you're full time, right? Yes. I love it. So I'm sure our listeners, some percentage of our listeners are like, oh my gosh, I'm also potentially starting with nothing. And so I'd love to hear what your private practice is like now. But before we get to that, can you please share how you got started in the profession? And then when did you start thinking about private practice?
Yeah, so when I went to school for this, my family is in physical therapy. My mom does physical therapy, my brother does. And so I've been around the therapies growing up.
