If you're a private practitioner or one in the making, you're in the right place, so let's get started.
Let's talk about why summer is the best time to start your private practice. Here's the truth most SLPs and OTs are completely exhausted by the time spring hits. The school year is winding down, the IEPs are piling up, and the burnout is real. And if you're like most of the students in the START program, you're already asking yourself, do I really want to do this again next year? If that's you, then
What essential legal and ethical foundations do I need before taking private clients?
listen closely because summer is the season of possibility. You likely have more flexibility in your schedule. You can try something new without fully committing to a major career change. And you can take a breath and start building something that's yours. Students in the Start Your Private Practice program use summer as a time to dip their toe into the private practice waters and get legally set up, learn how to start getting their first clients and how to bill for those sessions. Then they start seeing one or two clients a week and making an extra $500 to $2,000 every month on the side of their job. And what they're doing is building a foundation that can replace their job or just give them more breathing room come fall.
And I want that for you too. So what do you actually need in place to see private clients? Well it's not a big clinic or a formal business plan. You don't need a logo, a website or a social media presence. What you do need is a legal and ethical foundation. This protects your license and your future.
How can I create a simple marketing system without a logo or website?
You need a clear plan for who you want to serve and a simple marketing system for how you'll find and book clients and support, real support from real people who have done it before.
