And he says, I've got an alternative view, Thor. This is the best thing for JJ. The starting quarterback, no matter what, if it is Kyler Murray or JJ, is going to be under a giant microscope. If they started JJ without him being head and shoulders above Kyler Murray, there would have been way too much pressure for KOC to bench him. The most popular guy in town is always the backup quarterback. This way he can step back, let Murray take all the hits, and when JJ's time comes, be it injury or performance, he's got to take advantage. I, I, yeah, I mean, I, I definitely see where he's coming from and, and, and maybe right. Like the, the, the environment, I mean, whoever was going to start, there's going to be a lot of pressure. There's a lot of eyes, obviously on this season, there was a lot of eyes when they were depicting as a quarterback competition, different stuff like this, but you get into the regular season, obviously it's, it's going to be a pressure cooker there. JJ can continue to develop here. If indeed that's what the plan is here. And from the comments yesterday, JJ gave, um, seems like he is totally on board, wants to stay here, wants to continue developing in this system. And of course, he's been named the QB2 right now.
But I definitely understand that perspective. And I think JJ will be ready to go when his number is called, like he said.
Yeah. And that's the thing. If we take out the, and it's not a 0% chance that he gets traded. Like, even though i know the reports and whatnot that he in what he's even said he wants to stay with minnesota his thinking in the front office thinking could be completely different he doesn't it's not like uh you know in other sports where they have a no trade clause or whatever um he doesn't have anything like that into his contract so the front office very well if they find a suitor they can make a deal whatever but barring what uh koc said in his i think pretty blatant like truth, at least what I'm picking up and what you were picking up, which is he's sticking by the development of JJ McCarthy for some, somewhat of a long-term thing.
We'll see him again, taking snaps for the Minnesota Vikings. And it's just a matter of, of when, not, not if. And so then it's kind of on him to step back into the shadows, work on his game, pick up more stuff in the offense and, and you know, wait for his time to shine. If it does, when I guess when it does come, but yeah, I think this is a very interesting way to look at this whole situation.
Irregardless of what you think of the Vikings' decision here, short term and then the path, I think we have to acknowledge that a lot of guys that have been in this situation that McCarthy have where you're demoted here, They, you know, whether it's sort of publicly or privately, definitely sort of rattled the cage and won out and want to go to a different place. Maybe you have a clear path to short term playing time, etc. JJ, from all indications, has not done that. He I mean, like when they came in with the mini camp, the OTAs told the reporters that this is where he wanted to be. He reaffirmed that yesterday. I absolutely believe him. And the Vikings plan that they laid out, with O'Connell, sometimes the stuff he lays out, you're not sure if it's true or not.
But he sounded, at least he put on a decent, convincing thing with that.
