And the reason we're playing the the stylings of Antoine Randall L there is because we know that he called plays during the second half of the game. Now this is not Press Taylor doing this last was Declan Doyle, but it was Anthony Heron, uh Antoine Rendell L Anthony getting that duty. And I thought it was really interesting what Ben Johnson had to say about it after the game and his reasoning. And I wanted us to listen to it as a crew.
I think we might might take a look at a couple of guys here during um during the preseason. You know, last year Declan had an opportunity in one of those games to do the second half. Um And so I I wanted I wanted L to get that that chance and uh he he wanted it too. I mean he I think he's an outstanding coach and I think sometimes when you're put in certain position rooms you kinda get uh labeled one thing or another and and here's the thing about El, I think he's got chance to be an offensive coordinator in this league, I think he's got a chance to be a head coach in this league. I think he would do a phenomenal job in both those respects and I I just I don't know if he gets that uh that type of credit around the league right now.
So it's a good opportunity for him to to uh get some recognition.
What did you think when you heard that?
Loved hearing that that Ben Johnson is continuing what we saw him doing last year. You know, we're still in the infancy really. Well hopefully if Ben Johnson's gonna be here coaching the Bears for a long time. We're still getting to know him fairly early in that process right now. But what we're seeing through a couple of seasons is that He's very intentional about development. And frankly, the Bears deserve some credit for that too, is they've been intentional about development and opportunity at the executive level also. But for Ben Johnson to allow his assistant coaches, not just coordinators, to kind of take over some c play calling opportunities. Yeah, you mentioned he mentioned Declan Doyle from last year, did that.
Now suddenly Declan Doyle's a head coach uh or I'm sorry, an offensive coordinator who's actually going to call plays now in Baltimore, but you know, an extremely young individual who's now been developed that quickly to that opportunity. Antoine Randallell is one of the most respected assistant coaches in this sport, a position coach who's developed some top-flight wide receivers after playing the position at a high level and being a quarterback in college and in high school and folks on this. I chased him around when I was at Bowlingbrook and he was at Thornton. We were in the old Sicka West conference. Then I go to Iowa. He's at Indiana running the triple option and being way before his time because if he was coming out right now, he'd have stayed as a quarterback in the NFL.
So he's got that level of mind, that level of competitive savvy. And he's been that type of leader. Ben Johnson's been around him for years now. out. He trusts him in front of the full team to give motivational speeches, to be a guy who the the players kind of look to for what the what the focus of an individual week is for some of the intangibles.
