I didn't come into this league or take this position to necessarily make friends. That's not the case. I love what I do. I love who I'm doing it with. That's the most important thing to me, and everything I do is with them in mind.
I love that. I'm not in this to necessarily make friends. He is such a breath of fresh air. It's the nature of sports is that you and your team, your chosen family, the people who employ you, the people you coach, or if you're a player. the coaching staff, and your teammates, your peers, you are up against everyone. It's us against everyone else. And so, yes, you can be friendly. You can choose to be acquaintances. Obviously, if you come up in a certain sport, there's people on other teams and with other organizations that you know. But at the end of the day, Ben Johnson is letting you know it's about me and my people. And especially if we have a rival, why would I care? My job is to crush them.
Well, and Mike Florio made the really good point, and he's made it with us a couple of times talking about how coaches typically don't do that because, well, you need a job. So you try to remain civil because you want to go to your next job or your other job. We see the coaching shuffle in the league.
