Last night was yet another odyssey of a Cubs game. Another terrible, terrible game that turned out to be a wonderful, wonderful game. As the Cubs walk it off for the ninth time this season, a 5-4 win over Colorado. and they walk it off at the very end of this game. Matt Shaw, the game-winning walk. He had an RBI triple in the sixth. A nice night for Matt Shaw.
But here we go again, and there's so much to talk about and dissect about this game. We will do it in this segment. We'll do it throughout the day. We'll allow ourselves perhaps a couple of Cubs segments on this day. But the conclusion... that I came to Marshall Harris last night or after the game that because of what we saw. We saw some really good stuff from the Cubs last night. There was good in that game last night. But we also saw some really disturbing and bad things in that game from the Cubs last night. So you had no in-between. There was really good and really bad in that game last night. I think that's the way the Cubs season is going to shape up. As in, the Chicago Cubs are either going to figure it out and get right and get to where a lot of us thought they could be, and I'm not saying they're going to catch Milwaukee necessarily, but rattle off wins, get back to 10 to 15 games over .500 and look real.
To me, there still is that possibility, but the only other possibility I think is For the Cubs, knowing how bad they can be and how good they can be is that the bottom drops out and they suck. I don't see the Cubs doing what they have been doing this year or recently, and that is middling. They're going to be like last night's game, either really bad or really good by the end of the season without an in-between.
But in last night's game, they were really bad at times, but found a way to win. Yeah. And so I can see them definitely staying on this treadmill of mediocrity for the duration. And here's why. Because when you look around at the rest of the National League, there's a few really good teams, but there's a lot of teams that look a lot like the Cubs in that they are also in that mediocre somewhere between three to four games over .500 or three to four games under .500. That's where the Cubs are.
