What is the 9-9-9 challenge and who claims they could complete it?

Marshall Harris 0:01
This hour is brought to you by Menards featuring Brandon Fryer.
Layla Rahimi 0:04
Save big money at Menards. Good job, Brandon. Have you heard of the 9-9-9 challenge, Clay? The hot dogs. Yes.
Marshall Harris 0:39
I can do nine beers, nine hot dogs in five innings. You know what? I think the nine beers, nine hot dogs in five innings is easier to do than 9-9-9 because you don't give your body enough time to adjust to the fact that there's food and beverage. I think once you get to the eighth, ninth inning, everything's settled. I do think more football players could pull off the challenge than baseball players.
Layla Rahimi 1:03
I'm not even, like, to me, this isn't even something, like, I'm excited to try because I'm positive that I could do the 9-9-9 challenge. Challenge. Nine beers, nine hot dogs. Yeah, he could do it. Nine innings. I've seen you drink nine beers.
Unknown 1:15
I drank a beer. What? I drank another beer. What? Three beers. What? Four beers. Oh, no. Five beers. Oh, no. Six beers. Seven beers. Eight beers. Nine beers. And a Bloody Mary.
Marshall Harris 1:30
The all-stars of Major League Baseball were asked this question.
Cliff Floyd 1:34
Nine hot dogs, nine beers, and nine innings? No. Games are going quick now. It's like two and a half hours. I'd get tired of it. No. No chance. I could easily do the beers. I would probably get through about five of the hot dogs. 100%. Three hours? Easy. Probably not. Absolutely not. No. No. No. It's like two or three weeks of preparation.
Marshall Harris 1:57
Oh, no. Yes. I think I would be very, very good at it. I've thought about this before. I think I can do it. What are two to three weeks of preparation? What does that consist of? You're drinking beer. Just don't eat too much the day before and you're golden. Yes. I believe also I could do this. I can't do it technically because I don't want the after effects of nine beers with the gout. That's not going to go well. I would die. But I'd do nine, like, mezcals. I get buzzed after two drinks. I would be like, oh, what's his name on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia after the Wade Boggs challenge.
Mark Grody 2:29
It's the Wade Boggs style. Wow. All right, give me that one. You know, that's the only ball I have, and I didn't expect you to hit it that far. I really don't feel like going to get it.
Layla Rahimi 2:38
What do now?
Oh.
Layla Rahimi 2:39
Layla Rahimi, Marshall Harris, Mark Grody. Middays 10 a.m. to 2 on Chicago Sports Radio 104.3 The Score.
Marshall Harris 2:52
Sometimes our producers are psychic. This is Rahimi Harrison-Grody on 104.3 The Score on this Friday. Congratulations. You made it through the All-Star break. We got baseball tonight. Marshall Harris and Layla Rahimi are with you on this Friday. And... I think this was inspired by social media, you know, on the internet, Marshall. The very viral, very popular concept of the Sunday reset, you know, where you're resetting your life for the week, you clean your house and all this. And then they got really performative and aesthetic, the videos. The next thing you know, people are cleaning their houses performatively, you know. Performatively for social media? I know, shocking. Never thought that could happen.
Marshall Harris 3:34
Nothing's more performative than the cleaning of the hotel rooms, but now I'm hearing that that is something that people do recommend when hotel cleaning staffs don't always have time to get the job done because they are under the clock. Meanwhile, we decided, and Marshall was the one to suggest this in our pre-show meeting, the baseball post-All-Star break reset.
What?
Marshall Harris 3:56
I actually think this is a really good idea and it's not performative. And it's a bit of a cleansing. You said we have two chances, two last chances to reassess our predictions. And I think that that is a good idea because I am pretty sure I said the White Sox were going to win 69 games. Nice, but they're on pace to win far more than that. That was my fault. And then I also thought that the Cubs were a 91 team and that's when everybody was healthy. So I confess, I need a reset. I need this all-star reset before we get back to baseball. But couldn't the Cubs still win the 90 games? I just don't know if it's going to be the same. 90 wins, again, wins you the division most likely. You're going to have to at least hope for it when you're facing off with the Brewers.
