You know that welcome music. It is the one of our current guests, the 14-year Major League veteran, the infielder, former White Sox as well, now with the Astros broadcast, and a friend of the show, Jeff Blum. Blumer, thanks for coming on today.
Always good. You guys, like I said, you guys treat me like a king. And hearing all those calls bring back so many great memories. But it's always good to be on with you again, Layla. How are you?
I'm good. Yes, Jeff Blum taught me a lot about the ways of the baseball world when I was young and just getting started. And I feel like a lot of what you teach is still very, very applicable.
I appreciate that. Yeah, you've got to be in for the long haul and have that patience and that endurance. And you've done great.

Jeff, I got to ask you, man, because Layla tells me you want to talk about the White Sox. We'll get to the Cubs and Astros in a minute, but why are you itching so much to talk about the old Sox as they are really kind of exceeding expectations here, even though it's just before Memorial Day?
Yeah, you know, I can say it in this city that, you know, I'm actually a fan from afar just because I appreciate everything that Jerry Reinsdorf and the organization has done for me. And when I get back into the south side, you know, seeing old security guards, ushers, everybody's so welcoming and stuff like that. So I kind of keep an eye on them from afar. and it's been so long since they've had a team to cheer for that this year seems like a year that they've got some guys that are rallying around each other. You know, Murakami is amazing to watch how he leans back on everything and, you know, trying to hit bombs every swing, and I think Will Venable's got them pushing in the right direction, and I also have an ex-teammate that's in the front office in Josh Barfield, so, you know, I like keeping an eye on those guys and keeping up with them, but it's fun when the south side is doing something that you have to look at.
It's great.
And we've heard so much about Josh Barfield. I feel like he's a major key to how all of this fits together. What do you think about just who he is as a baseball man and just his approach when it comes to putting together a team like this that you've been seeing?
I think it's great. He was a very good player, and you think about the DNA that he has. His dad, Jesse Barfield, he's got a brother that played for a little bit, but there's just something about their... They're a very cerebral family when it comes to baseball. And I had a chance to play with Josh in San Diego. He was the second base. I was playing shortstop, so I got to know him really well. But he's got a great eye for the game. He's got a great eye for talent. And I think what's great about what the White Sox are doing now with the current system that they have is they have a real vision for who they want this organization to be. They want to get those guys that are going to get the – dig their toes into the dirt and push a little bit harder, maybe play a little bit grittier.
