Who is Herb Howard and why is his Bears report important?
Herb Howard is joining us. Herb Howard is here. Herb joins us in studio right now and he smells great. And that to me that is bonus points. Herb immediately showed he was gonna be somebody asking meaningful questions. He's gonna
ask a question that everyone else in the room is gonna want to know the answer to.
Coach, with all the injuries that you guys went through throughout the summer, obviously that impacts the kicking game and who's where. You guys get to the regular season relatively healthy considering that. Is there enough time to get the guys kind of back into the spaces that you originally and kind of had them sliding in your mind at the beginning of the game? Yeah, I mean that's a great question, Herb.
Well thank you so much Herb for joining us. This has been a lot of fun.
It's always fun with you guys. You are absolutely amazing. I listen to you guys when you don't invite me, so it's really cool.
With Rahemian Grody. Get a tolk of this guy. He smells great, I'm telling you. On 1043, the score. Bears getting ready in earnest now for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at Soldier Field, a full practice today. Ben Johnson is talking today. Caleb Williams will take to the podium in a little bit. Open locker room. It's all happening. A perfect time indeed to talk to our Bears reporter for 104-3. The score, Herb Howard. Herb is joining us on our video. Stream to watch, search the score Chicago on Twitch and YouTube. Herb, what's going on, man? How are you? Grody, Layla, what's good? I'm good. How y'all feeling? Great, man. What is going on out there?
How have summer injuries affected the Bears’ kicking game and roster health?
What did Ben Johnson have to say today at the podium?
Well, he came in with a very uh serious demeanor. You could tell he was clear about having flipped the page at some point. I don't remember who, but somebody asked him about, you know, uh scoring points, and he said we haven't scored a single point this week, and that was it. He cut the question off. Like we're not we're not talking about fifty nine, we're not talking about anything else. We haven't scored a single point this week. He's very, very clear about the the the challenge that they face this week going up against Coach Flores and Minnesota's defense. Coach Johnson's very familiar co familiar with With Coach Flores. He knows him as a as a very worthy uh opponent. And so he's putting a lot of respect on this game as he should.
He was asked by Courtney Cronin if he if he how can he kind of prepare and anticipate some of the things that Coach Flores wants to do, understanding that Coach Flores breaks his tendency sometime as he did last year when he didn't really bring a lot of pressure in that Bears first game. And then the second game against Minnesota, he brought a ton of pressure, and Coach simply said, You can't, you can't prepare for him in Mm. That way, you have to try to hope that you can find answers for every single thing that he does, which is a ton of things. And so he's very, very aware of the challenges that he's gonna face against Coach Flores and his defense.
Well, I I think what we're trying to figure out, Herb, is is whether or not we're gonna see a lot of blitz actual blitzes from Brian Flores, or are we gonna see some blitz looks? Like if there's one thing he loves to do, it is disguise and try to fool a quarterback, even like Caleb Williams in year three.
Yeah, I think I think you hit the hit nail on the hair right there, Layla. It's gonna be about Caleb, right? If he has taken that next step in his development to where he can kind of solve some of these issues in real time, pre snap and post snap, to figure out, okay, Coach Flores kinda showed one thing and then they dropped into something else, or they looked like they were gonna sit back in the zone and they brought heavy pressure. Can Caleb decipher that quick enough to find the answers that he needs, either to get the ball out of his hands or recognize that hey, I actually have a little bit more time than I thought. I don't need to bail out just yet. And so I think that the Minnesota Vikings defense is gonna show you a multitude of things.
