Chapter 1: What are the highlights from this week's catch-up?
It's the weekend catch-up for the long weekend. Quite a lot happened this week that we'd like to share with you weekend catcher-uppers. You may have noticed that large yellow ball in the sky and that prompted a lot of chat. There was also conversations on Coleslaw, Conquering Everest, Holy Communion, Kildare and the Sam McGuire. Very short chat.
But first, the summer arrived and we went outside to celebrate. Listen up there. I don't know if that's a lawnmower or an airplane or a helicopter. Could be any of those things. We're outside.
Chapter 2: How does the weather influence our outdoor activities?
Yes, we're outside. This is living the dream, as Jenny says. Do you know when you're eight or nine and it's May, late May as it is now, right through June and you're looking out the window of the classroom and you see that's a lovely sunny day and you're thinking to yourself, I should be outside playing. I should be outside playing. Teacher, let's do the lesson outside.
Let's do the classes outside. Remember that? And sometimes you were lucky enough that your teacher was the type of person who'd bring you down to the local field and say you were doing a nature walk. And then as you get older, you might be lucky enough to work outside. And that's great. But most people work in offices or studios.
And when it's a day like today, you go, can we not just do it outside? And of course, for technical reasons, in my case, you can never just do it at the drop of a hat or at the drop of a microphone, for that matter. So you had to suck it up and just do it inside and try and imagine what other people were experiencing outside, sitting in their back gardens, listening to you talking.
listen to you playing the songs, all that sort of thing. But now, you may have noticed, I have my own podcast. So Jenny and I can do whatever we want. And we decided to decamp. It was a big undertaking. We decided to decamp from the front room to the back garden. And here we are outside. So you will hear birdsong, which is nice. You may hear a dog barking. That would be Teddy.
He's old and he gets a little bit cantankerous. Yes, that's Teddy. So you may hear him and you may hear some distant traffic noises.

Chapter 3: What are the challenges faced when climbing Mount Everest?
But in the main, what you're hearing is the sound of summer. Yes. 22 to 27 degrees. That's what the man said on the radio this morning. And he said, we will have it until Wednesday. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Be careful out there. Apply sunscreen. Baz Luhrmann, eat your heart out. Jenny joined me outside and maybe the sun went to her head. But after all these years, she attempted to chat me up.
Hey, is your name Molly? Because I want to spend more Malone time with you. Hey, is your name Leaving Cert? Because it's a cert you'll be with me.
How about this one? Could you leave the studio, please? Because I'm really self-conscious.
yeah that doesn't that doesn't tend to work I mean just no not really or the one that has I think worked probably the most in Ireland anyway well in the country is I have great road frontage oh yes that's it like just stay with the basics you don't need any of your fancy chat up lines just that talk about your road frontage it's all about the money really isn't it no it's just no it's make you have a bit of a laugh
That's why the Coleslaw line is so funny.
Yeah.
And she obviously thought that was hilarious.
I wouldn't go near that Coleslaw. It's been there since Tuesday.
It's been there since Tuesday. You'd laugh and then... I hope he was joking though. And he wasn't just doing actually food safety. We presume he has a really good sense of humour and that is hilarious.

Chapter 4: What insights were shared about First Holy Communion?
Yeah, well, I suppose we were on the way up and every single bit you're looking at, you're thinking, that's it, that's it. The amount of falls so much was ridiculous. But you can always see something lurking in the background. But once you get up to the top, it's just pure, pure relief because you're there for 11 hours and you're after having a failed attempt and everything like that.
But then you kind of have to lock in as well and realise, well, look, the most dangerous part is the way down now. So I can't kind of lose control of myself too much here. But, oh, you're just buzzing. And to get there with the lads was absolutely unbelievable. All three of us to get up was so nice.
And the other lads were Eanna McGowan and Padraig O'Hara. And Jason Black, the team leader, had to sit it out because he got an injured ankle. I spoke to Adam about the potential dangers climbing Mount Everest and the fact that it could have been a completely different story.
It could have been, yeah. And look, you can see there's bodies, of course, on the way up, sleeping and stuff like that.
Did you see dead bodies?
Yeah, well, there was one on the Hillary step. And I must have thought he was just relaxing because the lads were like, he was right in front, he had to clip around him. But I didn't see him, so I must have thought he was just asleep or something, or just chilling for a second. But yeah, look, we were in the dark, so we were lucky we didn't see too many of them.
But yeah, like that, you can see why the wrists are there. Like, you're so exhausted. Sitting down for a second, you're kind of thinking, will I get back up and stuff like that. But Yeah, no. Look, the risks were there, but it's so much more safe than a few years ago. You know, the Everest movie was the weather and stuff like that. So that was the one thing we had to battle.
There was the jet streams and they wouldn't go this year. They were staying up there. So you're thinking about frostbite the whole time. So that was a big one. That's why we turned around the first time, essentially.
because we were absolutely freezing and stuff like that but uh look the risks are there and they will be there and i'm sure future expeditions and stuff like that but that's kind of the joys of it as well isn't it well yeah it's yeah why do we gravitate towards danger us human beings um have you any ideas there yeah it's a weird one so i'm seeing some load of people there as well doing it so like it's obviously it's not just yourself over there doing it
