I'm Sheila Shoiga and this is Ready To Be Real. My guest this week is professional home organiser Hazel Burton of The Home Reset.

We came in and
just tidied and left. The system's going to be gone. There is no system. That's just a tidy up, right? What you need is a full reset.
Hazel lives in Dublin with her husband, Conor, and their two children, Fionn, who's 12, and Izzy, who's almost 10. And before setting up the home reset, she spent 17 years working in finance. Today, she's helping people transform not just their homes, but often their lives too. Her client list includes some very well-known faces, including Vogue Williams and Joanne McNally. In this conversation, we chat about decluttering and the important questions we should be asking ourselves before deciding what stays in her home and what goes. She also shares the one organising product she thinks that every house should have and her golden rules for creating a calmer home. Here it is. I met you in person a few months ago and you were speaking on stage to a crowd full of women.
I don't think there were any blokes in the room at all that
day. At one point there was, but he left. He
fairly swiftly removed himself. Yes. And you were unsurprisingly brilliant. Do you know what? And I said it to you afterwards. It was full of practical information and all of the things that I was expecting from you. But I also didn't expect you to be as dry-witted and self-deprecating as you were. You were gas. Chandler Bing. That's what my friends call me.
It was brilliant. Well, I had stripped naked in my car and a man caught me. So that was the start of the day off a heist. But no, we had a lovely day, didn't we? My other nickname for my friends is Prudy Judy. So I'm not someone who would do that. Yeah, no, we did. We had a great day and go away with all this. I love speaking about what I do as much as I love doing it. Yes. Because... It comes across. Yeah, I think people like a mystery maybe of what I do and I don't have a magic wand. We're not Harry Potter. We can't make our homes bigger. But what we can help with is just in terms of your mindset on what it is that we actually need and use and love and need to stay in our homes. That's what we do. We don't magically make it disappear.
Yeah, there's a lot of work that goes
in. Not just for
you guys, but I suppose for the people as well. Or maybe sometimes people want to say, okay, here you go. This is the keys. I'll be back whenever it's done.
And a lot
of people who are probably watching over your
shoulder at every move. Yeah, we've done both. And I think it depends on your personality. And I'm kind of a person who couldn't imagine someone else doing that for me without me being present. But there are people who are super busy, not so attached to the stuff, but they know the stuff has to leave and systems are required.
So
they've been on holidays or in the office. And we might send the odd message throughout the day, you know, with a group of items to say, what are we thinking here? But sometimes we just have free reign. And we make the decisions, but we might leave a homework pile or yeah, sometimes we're just making full decisions and they come back and people are happy with that if that's your personality that you're able to like let go of that control and you've obviously paid for us to come in and do the service

that we're professional organisers who know what we're doing then yeah why not but it's not for everyone yeah sure a lot of our clients are there hands on with us all
day yeah I'd be the type of person probably that would be like annoyingly over your shoulder Yeah. Every move going. What are you doing there? Before we get into all that, because there's so much to cover. I have so many questions. I'd love to know, were you always like when you were a little kid?
