He asked for the trade, and the GM was out there yesterday talking to the press. And when he went to the GM and asked for the trade, it was really quiet. They wanted to, I guess, keep it quiet. And Connor Hallibuck has all sorts of no-movement clauses and everything else. There were stories that maybe there was some sort of side agreement saying, hey, listen, we know you're still contracted to 2031 or whatever it is, but we'll do our best to move you. And here is the Kevin Sheveldayoff's response to that.
Well, first of all... You know, again, a contract is a contract in the National Hockey League, you know, period. There are no side agreements. There's no general agreements. You know, the league doesn't, you know, allow for that. So any, you know, I guess the fact is any notion around that would not have any merit. You know, that being said, you know, we are a team that has been trying to be competitive. We've been trying to push the... push things forward and try to, you know, to win on a regular basis. And, you know, again, when Connor came and asked, you know, and requested, you know, being traded, we kept it quiet. That was partly on his, you know, request as well. And we tried to, you know, make that work.
And we've been trying to make that work ever since.
And we talked about this at the time, and that was right after Hellebuck won the gold medal with the Olympics. The response from a lot of people in this country was just so terrible to the guys who played on Canadian teams who were on Team USA. And it came out during all of this yesterday that after the Olympics, the hate towards Connor Hellebuck, his wife and his children, was so bad in Winnipeg that police had to get involved.
So any of the specific things I can't speak to because I, you know, obviously, you know, what they endured, they shouldn't have had to.
Wow. And then in Detroit, Dylan Larkin, who was their captain, he also is signed until 2031. He also requested an early
