Ah amazing scenes here. Uh Brisbane have been so good to us all year. Uh when they got through Nikki Brown said, Who do you want who do you want on fireball on Friday? We said well there's only one man to get and that is the dual North Smith medalist and he's been good enough to join us. Ballers make Will Ashcroft feel welcome. Thank you, mate. Thanks for joining us.
Will Ashcroft 0:37
You good? Very well. Very well. How's the build-up been?

How did Will Ashcroft get invited to join the Fireball Grand Final episode?

Will Ashcroft 0:40
It's exciting. Uh get down on Wednesday we did, it's like the last uh couple of years, so yeah, settled into Pullman and um excited for today.
David King 0:48
We'll talk about the game shortly, but um it's come to my attention that there was some average scenes after the game in the prelim final on on Saturday night. There was bottles, there was Brisbane supporters who copped the played a nachos on them. What's the club done uh for that uh young fellow who had that happen to them?
Will Ashcroft 1:05
Yeah, I was just chatting to the guys, um Brownie and and Danny before yesterday about getting them out to Captain's Run today and I'm not sure what they've got planned but we'll look after them and um I think they've got a couple of tickets to to tomorrow's game. Yeah, get him into Captain's Run and and catch up with them, give 'em a jersey or something like that and um yeah, you don't you don't want that part of um our game. So uh it's exciting for uh the young kids that'd be coming to to tomorrow.
David King 1:27
Amazing. One more from me. How smart was that Humor Cluggage play? Like that to to think of not tackling Impy full on, like sort of half tackling but not tackling him, like it's one of the smartest things I've seen on the field. What was going through your mind when that happened? Yeah,
Will Ashcroft 1:40
it was pretty crazy. I was right there, I was sort of humming past to try and intercept the handball and didn't do that and turned around and and saw Huey there. Um and then just saw it unfold and was pretty crazy. All of us sort of stopped and just were settling up for a a ball up really, but um yeah, Fags mentioned it to to Hugh in front of everyone after the game and he he said he did it did it smartly and and claimed that so it was um it was a pretty impressive moment. Fourth here, you've gone run a

run up. Premiership and Norm Smith. Premiership and Norm Smith and you're back there again. Pretty easy game for
Will Ashcroft 2:09
the isn't it? Yeah, Dunks always likes to remind me and and Logs and Kai and those types who have sort of come in straight away and just played in grand finals that uh it's not that easy. Uh but yeah, it's a credit to everyone from the top to the bottom, all our leaders, um the football department, um people upstairs that's it's pretty amazing what we've been able to build.

What was the build‑up like for the Lions before the Grand Final?

Will Ashcroft 2:26
So
Kane Cornes 2:26
what's the secret to playing in big games and playing well in big games because when when when the m the home and away seasons are are board You don't look as invested as you do when the big games roll around. Tony Leonard, my great mate who travels by train, said he he likens you to Wayne Johnson. The dominator stood up in big games. That that is you at the moment. Your C V says that. What's the secret?
Will Ashcroft 2:48
I think for me like I've always set myself for obviously you you've got to play well in the home and away season to set your season up and give yourself a chance at finals, but I think for me even as a kid, like I used to stay here when I was ten, eleven, twelve, come to the pre Olympic grand finals, like you just love it and it's the the biggest crowds, the most is on the line. So I think for me personally I've always just wanted to be set myself for for those games and yeah, it sort of probably looks like sometimes in in the year we're not going as hard as we can and we we cop some big losses which we don't want but um I think yeah something probably just switches in our head, our mindset I think what's when our mindset's right, our game plan stacks up, we've seen that.
