And misconduct is a catch-all window defined as unsportsmanlike, unnecessary or dangerous acts that don't explicitly... aren't explicitly covered in the provisions. And so misconduct is sort of a catch-all for anything that fits outside the matrix. So initially, the reporting yesterday, Kane, and you would have seen this online, was this was going to be a $1,500 fine for careless contact with an umpire, which is just a breach of a duty of care, which can be unreasonable, unnecessary. But then the AFL looked at it and they thought... $1,500 doesn't quite fit the bill. It's not enough. It's not enough of a punishment. So they went, we want to find a heavier punishment, but we can't give him a week.
We can't give Toot Miller a week. We can't give Braden Maynard a week because it wasn't intentional under the guidelines. So we'll give them a misconduct fine, which serves two purposes. One, it's a heavier fine, $5,000. as opposed to $1,500. And two, it means Gold Coast avoid another fine for umpire contact and Collingwood avoid a fifth incidence of that, which would have given them a $20,000 fine as well. There's umpires this morning who are very frustrated that this has not been given a week, but there is nothing within the regulations that would allow the MRO to give this a week. That's the issue for the AFL.

That's right. If you intentionally touch an umpire in a demonstrative, aggressive, forceful and or disrespectful way, any of those words, you could probably argue it was disrespectful with Toby Green, then you can get a week or more at the tribunal. If you intentionally touch an umpire in an unreasonable, unnecessary way, but is not forceful and is not disrespectful, then it's a fine. And then careless contact is a fine as well. So, yeah, that's the reason why this is a fine, not weeks.
