What is the opening discussion about the upcoming Grand Final week and the Brownlow Medal?
Breakfast with Gary and Tim.
Ah, good morning everyone. Great to
have you with us on this Tuesday, September the 22nd after the most unbelievable four or five days. We've got our grand finalists sorted. The Brisbane Lions take on the Fremantle Footy Club after two of the great preliminary finals and we've got Nick Dacos, anointed as a Brownlow medalist finally after being runner-up a couple of times and third as well. He dominated last night, as we all expected. Won with a record 47 votes on the start of a big grand final week. Oh, so much, so much to talk about. Wiss Watson's with me as always. Go, Wiss, please.
Good morning, Garrity. Good morning, everybody. We will only have, sorry to correct you there, but we will only have Nick Dacos this morning if that interview with Hamish is finished. I believe it's still going. He's got two questions left to ask. It may require long answers, so we may or may not have him before nine o'clock this morning.
We'll have him all right. He's going to join us out of the 8.30 news. Sam Edmund will be here out of 8 o'clock with all of the footy news that's kicking around. And there's some stuff going on at the moment. And we'll unpack what was, say it again, two of the most incredible preliminary finals started at Sydney. Come from behind win by the Dockers was magnificent. And then a Saturday twilight at the MCG where we sat back and footy doesn't get played any better than
that,
my friend.
What a game. What a game. And before I give you your flowers, I just need to say this because this is sort of like a community service announcement. There's mobile billboards going around at the moment saying, They're roaming the streets of Melbourne. On one side of the billboard, there's a big photo of Greg Swann.
How do the hosts break down the incredible preliminary‑final matches and the Brisbane vs Fremantle showdown?
On the other side, there's one of Gary Lyon. And it reads, lengthen the game. So you've already started a campaign to lengthen the game. Congratulations to
you. No, you don't need to lengthen the game. You just need to sit back and revel in what was an unbelievable game of footy.
It was unbelievable. But it was one of those games, you know, when you're sitting there watching it. Now, you're right in the middle of it because you're calling it, obviously. But when you're sitting at home watching it, it was just one of those games where, and it doesn't happen that often, but it was one of those games where you just didn't want it to end. You just wanted more. I know you said that you were all fizzed up after it and you had trouble sleeping, but I think most people that watched that, it just stayed with you and there was so much in that last quarter. It's the first time I've ever gone back and watched a game again, the last quarter again,
the
next morning. The next morning I sat there and I watched it again. I thought, what did I miss when I was watching it yesterday because of the emotion of it all? You called it. You called it so, so beautifully. I know you don't. I know you don't like accolades. I know you don't like
flattery.
But you were absolutely magnificent. Even at halftime when you said, at halftime you said, look, this is still very much a Brisbane Lions game, the way that that was played in the second quarter and you went through the stats going forward, all that sort of stuff. But then in the last quarter, I'll give you two things that you said in the last quarter. One... was when you said, hello, they've cleared out the forward line. Jack Gunson is deep. They've got a lot of space. The ball went down to him and he kicked the goal. And then in the last minute and 38 seconds, you said, oh, no, there's a mistake here or whatever you said about Sisley being free. He's free in the defensive part. The ball goes in there.
He takes an intercept mark. So flowers to you. You kept your head. You kept your head, but others around you may have been losing there.
No, I wasn't keeping my head. I was carried on. As I said a couple of times this year, just get into a game of footy and you lose yourself. And I can't remember watching a better game of footy than that. It was just the most incredible thing.
