And have the time and remember to do so. Try and find something in your house that you own that is particularly heavy. But is also something that you can hold in your hands. Or even perhaps one hand. Something like, I don't know, a bowls ball would be ideal. Perhaps if you owned a bowling ball, that might work too. Something heavy, metallic, perhaps dense. And like I say, you can either hold in two or ideally one hand. And then, like I say, when you have the time to sit down with this object, try as best you can to really feel and to be aware of the force that is acting on that object. And now, this is something that we regularly take for granted because that force, that powerful force that pulls us to the ground, that keeps us rooted to the floor, is so ever-present that it can be taken completely for granted.
You know, this is perhaps why it took philosophers, scientists, so long to label the force, to analyze it acutely. Because without any sort of outside frame of reference, of course, we stick to the ground. You know, what else would we do? And so the power of that force often goes unnoticed. But you'll find when you spend some time with this heavy object in your hands, especially if you allow it to sort of drift downwards, let your hand be moved towards the ground. And in your mind's eye, begin to imagine it Not just as a heavy object, but as an object perhaps being pulled by a magnetic force. Imagining that it is not just the object that is falling to the ground, but in fact the ground that is trying to meet the object as well.
After a little while of trying to be with that sensation, you do really begin to feel the force that is gravity. It feels truly like something that is pulling, especially with particularly heavy objects, but of course any object that you could hold in your hand.
