Welcome to Send Me to Sleep, the place to find relaxing stories for a good night's rest. My name's Andrew. Thanks for joining me. Tonight, I'll be reading Nancy Drew and the Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene, chapters 24 and 25 of the book. The Final Chapters In the previous chapters, Nancy narrowly avoided having the marshal discover her stolen clock and rushed home to tell her father the news of her adventure. Discovering inside the notebook that the missing will was located in a safety deposit box at the bank, Nancy and her father quickly made preparations to retrieve it the next day. After securing it, Carson warned his daughter not to get her hopes up, worrying that until the document was thoroughly checked, he couldn't be sure it was legal.
And so Nancy was left eagerly awaiting her father's verdict. Before we begin tonight's story, let's get ourselves ready for sleep. Start by taking a deep, relaxing breath. And settle your body in whatever way feels most comfortable. Now let any thoughts of the day drift away from your mind. And simply follow the sound of my voice. So let your eyes fall heavy. And your breath soften. As we settle in. for a peaceful night's sleep.
Chapter 24 The Coup de Grâce Oh, Father, it's nearly two o'clock now. The relatives should be coming in a few minutes. I'm so excited. Carson Drew, who stood in the living room of the Drew home, smiled indulgently at his daughter as she fluttered about, arranging chairs. I believe you're more thrilled than if you were inheriting the fortune yourself, he remarked. I am thrilled, Nancy admitted. I can scarcely wait until the will is read aloud. Won't everyone be surprised, especially the Tophams? Do you think they will come?
How does Nancy prepare for the reading of the will?
Oh yes, the Tophams will be here. And unless I am mistaken, they will bring a lawyer with them. Just as soon as they learned that another will had come to light, they began to worry. Are you certain the will can't be broken? Nancy inquired anxiously. Of course, I can't be certain, Nancy, but I've gone over it very carefully, and so far as I can tell, it is technically perfect.
