Those of you that have been listening to this podcast for a little while. We'll know that initially And for for quite some time, uh, I would not be doing these kinds of rambles, um, to you, but I would be Reading stories, um And across the Several years that I've now been Making this podcast. I've read. Very many stories. And I really We appreciate The fact that I was given the opportunity Too mate. Reading classic novels. Part of the way that I make a living. Because quite honestly, I wasn't a huge reader. before having started to make the podcast. And now. I have developed such a love of reading. Which now feels like such a strange thing to be said because Honestly, I've always loved stories and storytelling. Um
I've always too A certain degree being A storyteller I've I've written. Um a lot in the past. Mostly a lover of. Television and and film, I would say. More so than books. But To begin reading and understand what is possible. In stories. And specifically in the medium. Of the written word. And in these classic novels which you come to understand really are classics. For a reason. Uh is most profound thing to have undergone. Over the last few years and Like I say, I will always be Truly grateful. For the opportunity to Be able to now say that I have read Upwards of forty five, maybe fifty classic novels um as as part of my work for this podcast. And Enjoyed the lime share often. Now I I won't lie in saying that they've all been
incredible, um profound, transcendent experiences. For me. But some of them certainly have. And whilst I have enjoyed the Very much many of the books that I've read. Throughout the podcast. I cannot say that any has stuck with me quite so profoundly and in such a way that has really imprinted itself upon my soul as the work of Lucy Maude Montgomery. And Especially as those of you will know, like I say, if you've been listening to the podcast. Sometime. The Emily of New Moon. Series? And I guess a little bit today is w of what I'd like to talk to you about is Specifically what I love so much about Montgomery's work. And then moreover, why it is that I think she is such an expert. Uh Storytelling. And A little bit about what it means.

A good story. Hmm. Before I begin, I'd like to So those of you who are Watching rather than listening to this podcast just now. My Personal copy of Emily of New Moon. Um Which I acquired some time after having Read it the first and second times. Um In fact I bought it. Uh from From A. an independent bookseller, I was so happy to find it because although it is not an original print, it is a print from fairly early on, is it is nineteen thirties print. Um and the book was first published in in nineteen twenty-eight, so it is still fairly of the time that it was first published, and that means quite a lot to me, um, to have something so original and of the time and This particular book doesn't have any illustrations, though I know some versions of this book have many.
It does have one at the very beginning. Oh. Emily Yeah. And In some ways I feel This is not It doesn't feel like such an accurate depiction of what I always imagined. Emily Of new men. Emily. Um Emily Star to actually look like But I suppose that's up to every individual's interpretation. I've not yet actually Had the chance to Read through this first one again. So I Certainly wielding. I'm sure.

As I've already read through it twice and enjoyed it thoroughly. Um And We'll happily read through the series. All the way through, I think. You need to allow a little bit of time. Pass. So you can almost forget. A little bit of what the story is about before you return to these things. But I need to speak now to Why it is that high
