What is mental health and why does it shape how we show up in the world?

Aaron Machbitz 0:00
Because mental health, generally speaking, is how you think, feel, and act. And how you think, feel, and act is how you show up in the world. And how you show up in the world dictates who you are in the world, what you get, the relationships you have, and how you live your life. And isn't that super, super important? How you think, feel, and act is like eating well, moving well, sleeping well, thinking well. These are the cornerstones of being a great human in the world. And if the more of us take care of that, then the more of us can show up in the best way possible. Because no matter how cliche it is, now I'm going from random different points here. I'm pulling all the strings together to line up to this one point.
Aaron Machbitz 0:35
But you get, I'm just speaking from the heart right here, so hopefully you can follow along, follow through, is that no matter how cliche it is, you truly never know what someone's going through.

Why is it important to openly share and discuss our darkest moments?

Aaron Machbitz 0:43
You don't. Most people don't share their darkest moments. They're not just like, hey, walk up. Hey, how's it going? I just lost my wife yesterday. Fuck. Nobody knows how to respond to that. I'm not saying you have to dump that on someone. Absolutely not. You can share whatever you want whenever you want.

How do Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention months help people who rarely think about these issues?

Aaron Machbitz 0:58
But there should be more of an openness to be able to express really fucking hard shit. Yeah. And... Yeah. And so... Again, I don't love the months just because I think the stuff that's really important, we should be doing it all year round, Mental Health Awareness Month, Suicide Prevention Month. But it gives people who don't think about it often an emphasis on it. And I think that is important because as people in the world, we have a lot of shit going on. And suicide is really complicated. And there's a lot of things that could drive someone to die by suicide. Suicide is not selfish.

What role does personal loss play in motivating a deeper conversation about mental health?

Aaron Machbitz 1:38
I've talked about that on many, many episodes. So please refer to those episodes for that. I will not have you disrespecting people, calling it a selfish act. I just don't appreciate that. I'm not going to go into it fully here because I've done it on a bunch of different episodes. So please, you can check those out on Spotify, YouTube. You just use the search bar or send me a text and I will link you to those episodes. But point being is like, this is a very, very, very important topic simply because we are talking about real, the lives of real human beings. And that's what it's all about, human connection. The cornerstone of a great life is great health and great relationships.

How can listeners support the podcast’s mental‑health nonprofit and community?

Aaron Machbitz 2:17
And the more we can talk about these types of scary subjects, the better we can connect with people and the deeper relationships we can have. And this all stemmed from me losing someone that I love deeply. someone who cared for me, someone who showed me more love than I ever deserve, someone who just was the best big sister you could possibly ever have. And she is a driving force for me trying to be the best version of myself in greatest service to the world. And I will try and honor my sister's legacy every single day for the rest of my life by being a steward of this information on this podcast, by trying to be the best husband I can possibly be, and by trying to be the best father that I can possibly be.
Aaron Machbitz 3:05
And that's what I think about that. Patreon is the home of our exclusive community where we do bonus episodes, live streams, Q&As, and merch discounts, and so much more. Patreon is the number one way to support this podcast and to support my mental health nonprofit called You Are Loved.
