Chapter 1: What are the latest winter fashion trends for 2023?
media this episode of stylish is brought to you by maya layers textures and statement coats winter has arrived in store and online at maya
This is Stylish, the podcast for all things fashion, lifestyle, brand and beauty. I am joined by my lovely co-hosts Rhiannon Joyce and Joanna Fleming.
Oh, she got it right this week. I know.
Fantastic. Third time's a charm. Oh, not quite because my name is Madison Sullivan Thorpe and I also co-host this podcast. You know what? There's always next week. Your voice is so distinctive. We know who you are. Thanks, Rae. But if you are a first time listener, welcome. Welcome. What has been going on this week?
Well, there's lots in the algorithm this week. I tell you what, if I see one more person scrubbing their face with a toothbrush, I'm going to scream. Oh, my Lord. What is this? My barrier hurts thinking about it. Oh, me too. I just wish people would stop spreading this misinformation. I'm like, what in the 2000s Clarisonic Brush is going on here?
Clarisonic Brush, what a throwback. The chokehold they had on me. I remember working in store at Mecca at the time and they started stocking Clarisonic and me thinking all the Christmases had come at once, that I could redeem my 40% off to buy something to scrub my face.
And those that don't know what it is, it's like it was a self-oscillating brush head, like a circular brush head, and it was to be used while you cleansed in the shower. Looking back, it could look like something else. It could look like something else.

Chapter 2: How do you effectively layer outfits for winter styling?
I'm not getting there.
I just think the way that Jo was explaining that, I was like, ooh.
Oh, the way I positioned it? Yeah. Anyway, not recommended because not great for your barrier. Let's not even, let's not do that.
Also in the skincare algorithm, I saw that Victoria Beckham spoke about her daughter Harper launching a skincare brand. Did you see this? I did.
It was a hard one to miss.
Yeah, I've got feelings about this one. Go on. Harper's 14. Mads, I feel like Harper Beckham is a bit of our Roman Empire. We've had a few chats. Wait, can I break the fourth wall here? Break it, right? Maddie and I did our first Fortnightly Friday episode. It was like a pilot episode. We actually spoke about Bran Beckham and Harper was like a key discussion point in that episode.
And you and I were going back and forth on – What are they doing with Harper? Like clearly she's the next iteration of Bran Beckham. You know, they've made a real conscious effort to not have her so in the limelight. Like she's definitely there. She attends Victoria Beckham's shows. She's obviously present in some like award ceremonies.
Like she presented Victoria Beckham with an award not that long ago. I can't remember what it was, but it was super cute moment. But she doesn't really done anything.

Chapter 3: What are the must-have winter staples for your wardrobe?
And we were kind of going back and forth saying that we really think that she's either going to launch a campaign. I think it was Marc Jacobs. Yeah.
I think we were like if we had to pick a brand that she would front, we were like Marc Jacobs Daisy would make sense being a friend of VB's.
That would be really cute actually. Yeah, really cute. Good call guys.
We thought that was pretty good. We thought that was great. But she didn't do that. She actually just decided to go out on her own and launch her own skincare brand. And Victoria Beckham actually dropped this on the Aspire podcast last week. So it's made headlines. It's literally everywhere. 14-year-old Harper is launching an acne skincare brand.
I will say up top, I've never seen a photo of Harper with acne. And that's not to say that she doesn't have acne, but I feel like if this is your narrative and this is a story that a lot of children, and I'm saying children because she's 14, are experiencing, it feels like I would have seen more of this up top as opposed to just coming out. And also it coming from her mum feels really interesting.
Well, we also look at the comparison of Alex Earle's range that was just launched where her whole narrative basically for the last like three years, I would say, has been her battle with acne.
Exactly. And that's maybe a bit of recency bias as well. Yeah. Like I'm seeing a lot of that and being like, okay, that's why I expected. It just wasn't the move I thought they were going to make.
Honestly, I was really quite surprised by this because totally to your point, Rae, I'm with you. And even taking the recency bias into effect, I'm like – You know, Alex Earl is still a grown woman to make this decision. Like, is this going to be her push into the limelight and the spotlight?
Because I think about all of the criticism that comes with starting a beauty brand and what Alex Earl herself has faced. I think for me, I'm like, oh, my God, is like a 14 or when she launches 15 year old ready for what the conversation and controversy and potential backlash may be?

Chapter 4: How can you incorporate color into winter outfits?
Because I don't think we are a forgiving audience when it comes to, and I say we as a general population, are a forgiving audience to anything to do with a celebrity brand.
Apparently, they've been working on it for two to three years. So they're really playing the longevity piece, saying that this is something she's been working on in the background. Harper came to her mom when she was experiencing the stress that comes with acne as a teenager, having been someone who had severe acne growing up. I can completely understand the anxiety that comes with that.
Obviously, Harper being in the position that she is incredibly privileged, I'm sure she has access to the best skin technicians, the best products and everything. So Yeah, it did surprise me and I agree with you, Mads. I feel like there's going to be a layer of criticism that follows this. One, because she's a celebrity. Two, she is 14.
And three, if they make this her first moment, I'm just so curious to see how this plays out.
Well, we'll no doubt be covering it on this podcast when it does launch. Absolutely. And having a bit of a deeper look into it. Now, Rhi, you are flying to Sydney... I am. Well, we're recording on Monday, so tomorrow. But when people are listening to this, yesterday you got there. Australian Fashion Week. Tell us what's going on up there with Stylish.
I'm so excited. For the first time, Shameless Media, Stylish in particular, have partnered with Australian Fashion Week. And we actually have a formal spot on the roster this week where the wonderful Naima and Anika are actually leading a panel alongside Bianca Spender. So they're going to be unpacking all the trends that they're seeing.
They're going to be doing a bit of a Q&A with Bianca to really understand what the inspiration was behind her collection, which I also believe is showing Tuesday. So I'm so excited for Naima and Anika to be on this panel because I don't think you could have two better people placed to be talking about trends and personal style. So I'm excited to be seeing them.
I'll be cheering them from the sideline going, woo, go girls! But yeah, we'll be able to give a bit of a deep dive and a bit of a snapshot of what they cover after.

Chapter 5: What are the essential tips for caring for winter knitwear?
I've got a few assets coming out so we can make sure that we share as much as we can. But I'm just excited to be in Sydney as well.
Although the weather's not looking too fab. Well, we're from Melbourne, so I think that you will be okay. Well, well, it is quite a nice day today though. I'm so excited as well because I feel like this is Annika's like eighth or ninth fashion week. So I feel like she's a seasoned veteran. So you've definitely got, you know, boots on the ground.
I'm so excited to hear like her trend report both offline and hopefully on. We'll be getting some of that as well. But I feel like she's Wonder Woman right now. She's like literally up there already with little baby Poppy and just first flight. Poppy's going to have more stamps in that passport by like year two than I do.
And we've got some commentary from Annika in this week's episode as well, which we will get into very shortly. What's on this week's episode, guys, before we get into the swap?
Big bumper episode today, guys. Big, big bumper covering all things winter styling. AW is what we're going to say. We're also asking a few industry experts, friends of the pod, who are going to weigh in and share their expertise. We've obviously got our wonderful Annika, who is technically on break at the moment, but we did ask her a little favor, plus a few more who we know and love.
We're also going to be talking about the CSB and Alex Earle collab. This has just hit the feeds Monday morning, so we're recording Monday night, quickly. And I'm excited to get into that one because it's just really exciting to see Australian brands absolutely kill it on the global stage and having Alex Earle involved and partnering real active right now. That's pretty major. All right.
Who wants to go first with the swap? Go Jojo.
Oh, me again. Yeah.

Chapter 6: How do you choose the right outerwear for winter?
Okay. This is going to be TMI. I'll warn you, but I'm not going to apologize for that because I think this is going to be very helpful to our audience. So I woke up the other morning and I had accidentally leaked through my pajamas. If you know, you know, we've all been there. And I was like, damn it. These are my favorite pajamas. They are these beautiful, like soft.
I think the fabric is Tencel. Is that what they call it? I don't know. It's like that really soft, like almost bamboo-y kind of texture.
Like breathable.
Yeah. Oh, they're so comfortable. They're so soft. The brand is Homebody and I love these pyjamas. And I was like, damn it, they're going to have stains on them now. Like I really struggle to get bloodstains out of clothing. And I'm like, okay, well, these are just done for. They're always going to have some kind of discoloration. And then I whipped out the co-stain remover.
And I've used this a few times and had quite a lot of success with it. I actually used it on a red wine stain on one of Adrian's shirts the other week, and I was not expecting it to come out. And I was pissed off at him about spilling the wine on the shirt. It was a really nice Cezanne shirt. But I managed to get the red wine stain out. Anyway, tried it on my pajama pants, washed them.
Not a single... remnant remaining like you could not even tell that anything was there I'm like okay this shit is legit I think it's made they say it's like a foaming enzyme cleaner or spot cleaner and it's designed to be used on clothes so highly recommend I just thought I'd drop a cleaning hack in there it's been a while for the girlies that need it thrilled to have it

Chapter 7: What accessories are trending for winter fashion?
There you go. That's mine. Mads, is it mine?
Sorry, Mum, if you're listening to this. I did have to buy a Mother's Day gift last minute. Now, my gift to Mum was the activity, but guilt just got the better of me Sunday morning and I thought, no, I can't physically go without a gift. So I went to Oraton, which I haven't been into for a while.
I have shopped their stuff previously, though, and I bought her the most beautiful pale blue cashmere knit. It wasn't cheap. It was definitely like a really nice gestured gift I wanted to give mum. But the fabrication was absolutely beautiful in all of their knitwear. And I was like, I think we've been sleeping on Oraton a little bit. Anyway, mum was a massive fan.
So I just feel like we've been sleeping. I really wanted to get myself one, but I thought probably not cute at 31 to be matching with your mum in a jumper.
Oh, that's cute. I would allow it. What is yours? I have a really wholesome swap as well. On Friday night, I spent the night with my mum. It was quite spontaneous. She sent me a text message and was like, I've got a spare ticket to this symphony orchestra. It's like a candlelit symphony orchestra.
Yeah, I've been before.
Have you been? Yeah. Oh, my God. I was obsessed with it. It was so cute. So I saw Fleetwood Mac Symphony Orchestra with my mom, went for an hour, 6 till 7 p.m.

Chapter 8: How can you make sustainable fashion choices this winter?
We went to dinner after. It was such a beautiful night.
I've actually been twice. Yeah, I went to an Adele one. And then I think I might have also done the Fleetwood Mac one. Oh, amazing.
Yeah, they do all different like covers but it's Candlelight Concerts if you want to Google it and then they have a full roster of all different ones that you can go to. The one I went to was at Collingwood Town Hall. It was so cute, guys. I loved it except I really wanted to have a little bop, bop, bop and a little sing-along but it wasn't quite the environment.
I've actually always wanted to ask you this and can't believe in the duration of our friendship I haven't. Are you named after the Fleetwood Mac?
Yes, I am. And when I got there, they started their first song of the set was Rihanna. And I went, ah! It's me! And everyone looked at me like a freak.
And I was like, this is my song. And your mum's like, this is her song.
Literally, it was so cute. I absolutely adored it. So I highly recommend it. They're all over Australia and all around the world, I'm pretty sure.
Yeah, it's huge, their reach. I get surfed paid ads for them all the time. Maybe this is my son to go. Someone said that to me today. Who was it?
Oh, I was in a store picking up a dress and they were like, I've been served an ad for that. And I'm like, well, you should go.
