27 May 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 10.733 Unknown

0141 951 1025 it's time to talk football it's Clyde one super scoreboard

0

17.513 - 20.636 Andrew McLean

Good evening and welcome to Clyde One's Super Scoreboard.

0

Chapter 2: What does Kasper Schmeichel's retirement mean for Celtic?

20.676 - 42.056 Andrew McLean

Kasper Schmeichel announces his retirement as Celtic's managerial hunt continues. Stephen Naismith thinks Rangers are getting the best player in Scotland in Lauren Shankland and Hearts make a signing of their own with Cammy Devlin and Craig Gordon's future still unsure. I'm Andrew McLean. Joining me in the studio fresh off of signing for a new club is Brian Graham. Congratulations.

0

42.176 - 45.259 Andrew McLean

First of all, Ross County back there. Was that a third time?

0

45.239 - 60.658 Brian Graham

Third time, yes. Thank you very much. Second biggest transfer yesterday was Shanklands after mine. No, only joking. It's a club I've known very well. It's now going to be my third spell. I'm looking forward to it. I've obviously had a couple of bad years but I'm looking forward to going back up there and playing football and enjoying it again.

0

60.959 - 65.104 Andrew McLean

Were there any thoughts of packing it in this summer? Always wanting to play. Keep going.

0

65.287 - 83.278 Brian Graham

No I think when you get to my age people see your age but they don't see the stuff that goes on in the background like I've missed nine training sessions this year I've been available for every single game and when you look at the strikers that were at the club at Falk at the time I was the only fit striker for every single game over the course of the season so that's quite incredible at 38 years of age so

83.798 - 101.959 Brian Graham

I still believe I've got it in the body, I want to go one more year, I want to go enjoy it, it's a club that I know really well, just going up there yesterday, seeing wee Suze and the Kit women and stuff like that, it was special when you walk back in and you can see your posters and with the time gone by with the teammates of previous years and it was nice, I took my daughter up with me yesterday, so we had a good wee road trip yesterday, it was all good.

101.939 - 106.909 Andrew McLean

Well, there you go. Maybe you want to put a question to Brian about his move, maybe his time at Falkirk last season.

Chapter 3: Who is Lawrence Shankland and why is his signing significant for Rangers?

106.949 - 118.632 Andrew McLean

Of course, there are some huge stories doing the rounds. Lauren Shanklin signing for Rangers from Hearts yesterday. I'm sure there's still some opinions out there on that from the Rangers.

0

118.612 - 146.138 Andrew McLean

side of things from the heart side of things 0141 951 1025 the news today that casper schmeichel has announced his retirement maybe that's got you thinking about celtics goalkeeper situation celtic fans is it going to be williamie sinisalo going forward is there another goalkeeper that's needed to come in to be the number one you can tell us and what about the managerial situation of course still not sorted is it going to be martin o'neill that's going to get the job for another year do you think there's a better candidate or a different candidate

0

146.118 - 171.072 Andrew McLean

that should get the job and Hearts making some moves of their own, but still some uncertainty around the likes of Cammie Devlin and Craig Gordon. So any thoughts on any of those topics, 0141 951 1025 on the phones. You are on for the first time in the summer show, the one hour show, the big story last night broke as we came on air, Lauren Shankland signing for Rangers from Hearts.

0

171.233 - 175.939 Andrew McLean

What did you make of that when it initially came about? Was that a bit of a surprise to you that that move came about?

0

175.919 - 195.463 Brian Graham

I'm guessing that the fee was or the lack of fee that is the big one for me because like a good friend of mine is a Rangers fan and I was speaking to him about it and I says to him how much did they pay and he said oh no there was a clause in his contract so that kind of shocked me a little bit because obviously you see him signing a three year deal last year but you've got to remember Shanklin is now in his 30s

195.443 - 212.001 Brian Graham

he's a boyhood Rangers fan an opportunity he waited so long last summer waiting on Rangers coming it didn't happen for whatever reason with the different people that were at the club now he's got his opportunity to go to Rangers it's a boyhood dream of his I wish him well but at the same time I think he'll bring the best out to Charmitty

211.981 - 229.062 Brian Graham

I think he's been when he first came in a lot of people hit him with a stick but the big man showed that he can score goals and he scored some fantastic goals along the way and I just think Shanklin's cleverness because he's a very very clever footballer will bring out the best in that young lad and he'll improve him and if they do play the two up front that'll be a strike force to be

Chapter 4: What are Brian Graham's thoughts on his return to Ross County?

229.042 - 247.907 Andrew McLean

be worrying about next year for the rest of the teams in the league that's for sure You mentioned the fact that he's 30 years old that's come up quite a bit some people saying that they feel that he's maybe into his prime at the moment sometimes people look at footballers and think well when they hit 30 their legs are gone but you're a striker who would you say you had your best years after the age of 30?

0

248.307 - 250.51 Brian Graham

Oh 100% after 30 I've

0

250.49 - 267.908 Brian Graham

playing with Ross County at the time playing in the Premier League I scored a few goals and then I came back down the road to Partick Thistle for family reason I went on and scored 100 goals for Partick Thistle so people see your age and they think oh you're 30 years of age and that's you over the hill people don't see the hard work and dedication that players put in nowadays and it's not

0

267.888 - 291.613 Brian Graham

of yesteryear where people were fretting sports science and all that sort of stuff wasn't available players no disrespect to them back then but they liked the pub more than they liked the training pitch so things have changed over a number of years now and I think Lauren Shanklins will be a great hit for Rangers 01419511025 if you've got any thoughts on that or any of the other topics we've mentioned let's speak to Graham who is a Rangers fan in the East End how are you Graham?

0

292.474 - 298.911 Graham

I'm not bad Andrew how's yourself? How you doing Brian? How you doing mate? Congratulations on your new contract. Ross County, is it?

298.931 - 300.413 Brian Graham

Yes, thank you very much.

300.614 - 321.79 Graham

You're welcome. Well, I was just talking to your producer there very briefly. It's the kind of state of affairs that Rangers are in at the moment. And I've counted the players I'm talking about out of contract, leaving, not being given contracts, etc. I'm hoping this isn't a business model that we're going to go into in the new season. I'm certainly hoping it isn't by 110%.

322.073 - 341.517 Graham

And can I run some names by you just to see if he's agreed? These are up there with what I'm talking about. Go for it. So I've got Jadon Magoma. Okay, that's a lone Brentford. He's definitely on his way back, I think. John Shooter. Great, great Cavalier player. Keep him injury-free. I believe he's not been offered a new deal yet.

341.557 - 343.94 Andrew McLean

No, he signed a new one-year deal a few weeks ago.

Chapter 5: What are the implications of the managerial situation at Celtic?

635.071 - 649.65 Brian Graham

He did so well to a point where I think his biggest bugbear would probably be saying it was five cup finals and he lost four of them and obviously lost the league or obviously went down to the last game of Celtic with Hearts and Celtic have got a lot to do as well so those two big clubs have got a massive summer coming up.

0

649.67 - 659.323 Andrew McLean

Thank you to Graham. What about Billy who's a Rangers fan and East Kilbride? Billy, what are you thinking about the Laurence Shanklin deal and anything else that's going on at Rangers?

0

659.911 - 676.789 Billy

Evening, gents. Yeah, I'm a long-time listener, first-time caller. Good to hear from you. I'm not getting as carried away with it, Andrew, if I'm being totally honest. I mean, don't get me wrong. I really appreciate that Herman McInnes wrote this staunchest contract deal of all time into his...

0

677.174 - 701.342 Andrew McLean

Into his contract Allow him to come to Rangers On a free But I don't think that would have been Derek McInnes' Intention at all I don't think Derek McInnes Would have wanted to His top goal scorer And his You know his captain Leaving to go to a Sort of title rival No I think Derek McInnes Would rather Lauren Shanklin Was still a Hearts player That's for sure That's probably Lauren Shanklin's agent Has been very clever here In making it possible For him to go to Rangers In the first place

0

701.913 - 717.458 Billy

I appreciate that. And I think, to be honest, a heck of a player. A really, really good player. But I don't know if he solves any of the issues that we've got in our squads at the moment. You can't have enough good players. But you really think, second half of the season, I thought Jermaine was excellent.

717.826 - 739.733 Billy

top goal scorer per 90 over the last second half of the season obviously Shanklin was injured but I feel like the way that Danny Rowe wants to play we want this high press this quick press and we're the best of all in the world Shank's a great footballer but he's not exactly a speed merchant he's not exactly a high presser I just wanted to see what the panel's thoughts were on that

740.236 - 755.996 Brian Graham

Well, just first and foremost, when I've been listening to calls on this show, they've been speaking about Rangers need leaders. Rangers are getting a leader in Lauren Shanklin. They're getting the captain of hearts. He's had a fantastic career up until this point. Now he's getting these big moves to Rangers. I think it'll work really well. By the way, Billy, I agree with you.

756.016 - 757.62 Brian Graham

I don't think Lauren Shanklin is...

757.6 - 778.604 Brian Graham

going to be the top press at the football club but when Rangers they'll utilise their squad they'll bring in quick wingers Charmitty's extremely quick they will be the ones that do the pressing and Shanklin will be in that pocket to go and play link the game and let Charmitty play higher up the pitch but also Shanklin will get in that six yard box where he comes alive and scores goals What are the other areas of concern for you Billy?

Chapter 6: How are Rangers preparing for the upcoming season?

957.181 - 969.098 Billy

As good young players, my mates are into the youth football. Boy MacArthur's coming through, he's banging in the goals. I think you need to be looking at bringing through the youth as well. And I'm looking forward to seeing the Curtis and stuff coming next season and contributing.

0

969.23 - 986.345 Brian Graham

Billy, just a small one. The one, Aston Scali came on in the game against Falk. I think he's 16 years of age, youngest ever in the Premier League history. So Rangers are trying to do things right. I know a couple of younger boys that are signing on with Rangers once they hit the age of 16. So Rangers try to go down that youth level as well to try and promote these young kids into the first team.

0

986.365 - 997.195 Brian Graham

But for next year, I do agree with you. I think they do need leaders. They do need character that can carry that weight on their back when it is playing for Rangers. They will need leaders over the course of the summer, 100%.

0

997.175 - 1016.623 Andrew McLean

Thank you to Billy. 01419511025. Maybe you've got some thoughts to add to that. Maybe you are a Celtic fan that's still thinking about the managerial situation. Some thoughts on the goalkeeper situation. Now that Kasper Schmeichel has officially retired. Talk of hearts. They made a signing today. The future uncertain for the likes of Cammy Devlin and Craig Gordon.

0

1016.643 - 1024.735 Andrew McLean

There was, of course, the Premier Sports Cup draw was today as well. Which we've only just finished last season. And all of a sudden the draw is being done for this season again.

1024.715 - 1042.032 Brian Graham

honestly it's the shortest break in the world by the way because I think Ross County are back on the 10th of June that'll be three weeks since my last game against Rangers it's incredible that's quite something just looking at who have you guys got in the Erdray Arnon Dundee and who's the other one

1042.012 - 1059.058 Andrew McLean

Dundee, Airdrie, Clyde and Annan Clyde There you go Tough group Iron who you could potentially get a first First goal against I need to see when the fixtures are Probably that first game Right well We'll see if you can get your first victory Of the summer season in this

1059.443 - 1071.013 Unknown

Yeah, Beat the Pundit is not going away for the summer shows.

1071.033 - 1089.45 Andrew McLean

It's at a slightly earlier time, but you do know that you're guaranteed to play against Brian Graham. So maybe you think that's a good thing and you want to play him. Maybe you think it's a tough one and you want to test yourself. Either way, 0141 951 1025. Get your call in during the next break and you can be playing Brian Graham at Beat the Pundit.

Chapter 7: What are the key areas of concern for Rangers' squad this summer?

1875.086 - 1892.413 Brian Graham

But that was the nature of the league this year. It was so crazy, so unpredictable. A lot of things happening. But, listen, that's us just throwing names out here because we don't know. We're having a stab in the dark here. Celtic pulled. Listen, I think they already know who they want to have in the door and there'll probably be talks ongoing in the background.

0

1892.393 - 1915.92 Brian Graham

obviously the Celtic fans are a bit restless because they wanted to know ASAP after the Scottish Cup final they wanted to know is Martin staying or is Martin going it's not happening so then it brings up these questions and then you start throwing names out who could be the next Celtic manager but Celtic I believe will know who it is Thank you to James let's speak to Brian who is a Falkirk fan that wants to speak to Brian former now former Falkirk player Brian how are you?

0

1916.356 - 1918.218 Andrew McLean

I'm fine, thank you. Hi Brian, how we doing?

0

1918.939 - 1926.306 Brian Graham

I'm doing magic. Just to wish you good luck with Ross County and I'm quite sure you'll be back in the Championship soon.

0

1927.407 - 1949.095 Brian Graham

And a massive thank you from all Falkirk fans because I think the season you had with us it was quite clear the impact you had both on and off the pitch and particularly with Barney Stewart because it was quite evident if Barney was going off at half time you were right over at him you were giving him advice Whether it was Groff, if he was being subbed, you were right at him at full time.

1949.255 - 1956.133 Brian Graham

You were right at him giving him advice. And I think we cannae play down the impact that you've had on that young man.

1956.333 - 1986.323 Brian Graham

That's very kind of you I really appreciate that Brian thanks for phoning in Barnley's a young boy I had a lot of time for I tried to help him with the training pitch and he's alright I did go and speak to him because I think there was one game after he'd scored a lot of goals and there was one game he missed a couple of chances I was just over reminding him you're getting in the right positions don't worry about it all strikers get in the positions they miss chances bounce back keep putting yourself in the right areas and you'll score goals and I had a fantastic relationship with the boys his personality he's infectious he's a fantastic person and I hope he continues to do well for Falkirk I'm sure he will

1986.303 - 1994.17 Andrew McLean

Is that something that you have gone out your way to make an effort to do maybe the older you've got in your career or is it something that just comes naturally?

1995.196 - 2018.065 Brian Graham

I think it comes natural to me and if I'm being honest obviously when the news hit yesterday obviously I spoke to a few people at Falkirk and a lot of the players wished me well the manager gave me a nice message as well but I got a really nice message from a young boy called Colin Allen who's started the season already playing a lot of football he came on and scored that wonderful goal I think he got the goal of the season for Falkirk as well at the awards night
