This is Talk the Devils, the Athletic Show dedicated to Manchester United. Coming up today, we're going to look ahead to the 2026 World Cup finals. Obviously, with a Manchester United perspective, we're going to preview what the players are going to be up to. We're also going to take a look at what else to look out for for Manchester United fans as well. Because actually, this World Cup. As we'll talk about, hasn't got huge ramifications necessarily for United, but obviously that will then have an impact on planning for next season, on the transfer window, and we'll talk about all of that as well. Right, in the studio here in Manchester, we've got Carl, we've got Critch, we've got Andy joining us at home as well.
We've got a little game which you can join in on as well coming up later on in the show. Um, it's a World Cup draft, which should be A bit of fun. Uh so that's something to look forward to. Uh but first of all, first of all, sorry, Carl, this is the biggest World Cup ever in terms of the number of teams, the number of games, how long it lasts for. Um And you've all got lots of different things planned, aren't you? Basically you're gonna be here there and everywhere.
Yeah, yeah. So I'll be I'll be heading out to Chicago for the first two weeks of the tournament, uh, making a show with a bunch of uh other very talented workers at the Athletic. I think you can see the show on Amazon when it eventually gets launched if you're based in North America. So any tips, recommendations for the city of Chicago, please let me know. Then after that I'll musicals are good. Thank you. That's a very good joke. Thanks. After that joining Critch with for some sho and I'm joining you as well for a couple of shows in London. Yes. Um and then throughout the tournament, I I guess I'm gonna be in a tactics truck if any football player at the World Cup begins to if we feel as if said players having conversation with Manchester United I'll be in a tactic struck.

Um and it was a very, very interesting chat that we had with Zidane, so look out for that. Uh Andy, are you going over to America at all?
I'm not. I've um decided not not to go. I said no. I'm gonna do the full Manchester United preseason and as I touched on last week I spend my entire football season travelling, go to a lot of matches and I just wanna spend a bit of time with my family and go on holiday. I'm gonna go to Italy to see how Italy are doing in the World Cup and obviously I booked it and they didn't qualify. So uh I'll be I'll be watching um as a fan but I've I've done quite a few interviews with players who are going which will start dropping during the competition.
You're gonna be watching the World Cup in Italy, are you sure?
You'd have thought so. It's a lovely country as well, so I'm sure you'll have fun either way, uh, to be honest. But yeah, it kicks off a week today. The first match is Mexico against South Africa. Um it's a little while actually until there is a Manchester United interest in the tournament. You've got to wait a couple of days, 'cause basically group A and group B hasn't got a lot of United interest in it.
