Certainly you and and Laurie have in the World Cup and we'll talk about that a little bit later.
But first of all, big news, Manuel Ogate injured. It looks like a serious knee injury. David Ornstein reported on the athletic that it looks like an extended absence for him, Laurie. What are the details on this?
Yeah, well we saw, didn't we, in Uruguay's match against Spain that was a decisive one for them in terms of their qualifications to the next phase of the World Cup that went badly for them, uh, that he twisted his knee in a really awkward way. I mean, I was watching it um at our ranch, the totally football ranch, sorry to say, guys, that another podcast that I was on uh recently, uh and um and you could tell instantly that it was a serious injury really because there The way that he went down, the the the when you look at the replays, the the way that his knee sort of buckled, and now we've had confirmation obviously from David Ornstein and then from the club as well that he has suffered uh a ligament issue.
He said it's the worst one you can suffer. There's there's people that I've spoken to that have suggested it it it looks like an ACL. I think they're still waiting for some more tests to come back to confirm it, absolutely, but that would obviously put him out for eight nine. Nine months probably, um, which is a serious blow to him personally, and obviously you know, we feel for him in that sense and hope he can come back to full form and full fitness um after the rehabilitation. But it also does put a certain complexion on United's transfer plans because he was a player that they were looking at selling to recoup some funds to then reinvest in the team in midfield area. Um, we can perhaps question what that would.
would now lead to for United. Um and you know, obviously there's a a compensation uh sort of formula with FIFA that that will cover uh to a decent degree his period out, but the main thing is obviously his fitness and his health. Um but it does you know add this extra I guess question now to United's transfer plans.
Yeah, we'll come to the question over the transfer situation in a moment. But Andy, just just for him. Agate, I mean, he's had a very difficult time at Old Trafford. His form has been very up and down, more more down than up, in fairness. Um, it's not worked out the move for him as he would have hoped, I'm sure. And then to suffer this, he described it in the social media post that Laurie mentioned a moment ago as rock bottom to suffer this injury at a time where he's looking, it looks like, to try and get a new club potentially. His country obviously need him to be able to try and get through into the knockout stages, then I'm out of the World Cup as well. You just feel really sorry for him, don't you?
Yeah, he's massively proud to play for Uruguay. They have an us against the world mentality. There's only three million Uruguayans. They've punched well above the weight historically in football. And it's a shock that they've gone out. And Marcello Bielsa took a lot of the blame for that. Uh Manuel Garti, he needed a good World Cup. I've always I've consistently said on his podcast he's a a better player than we've seen at Manchester United. And I don't just pluck that out of thin air. I pluck it out of people who train with him, people who've coached with him. Uh people saying things like fans don't fully appreciate the work he does off the ball, but you're on a hide into nothing even saying that because the the the the opinion has been made on him that he's that he's not good enough.
