Hey, Violetta, how are you going?
Awesome, Pete. How are you? Nice to see you again.
Good to see you. Always a pleasure catching up out and about at Industry Things and in the THD Plus community. But we're carving out some time on the podcast to talk about the stuff that keeps you busy. But for those unfamiliar with yourself and White Cat, maybe you can give some context in terms of you and the work you do, and we'll go from there.
So White Cat started out as a distributorship. That was pretty much the focus for me about six years ago. And we built that distributorship based on a certain technology, which comes from Denmark and the product or the company name is called CareTag. And they specialize in RFID, surgical instrument management. And I had a real passion for that. There was a problem I noticed 10 years ago. And so that's how White Cat came about. I mean, literally, I was in Rio Tinto.

in Mongolia, underground, finishing a project for UAT, saw this RFID journal and went, hey, that actually might fix the problem.
I mean, I totally think that every time I'm underground in Rio Tinto as well, that's where all my good ideas come from. Maybe a little bit more, I thought I knew you and that one kind of threw me a little bit.
How did Violetta discover RFID for surgical instrument management?
Maybe you could give me more context on where that came from.

Well, it's interesting because I started – well, I started – let's go back like almost origin sort of phase. So I actually started and graduated as an environmental scientist and was doing my master's. And lo and behold, of course, when I graduated, we were the first to graduate with that type of degree. So environmental science was just not important in one of those days. And there was just something there not – I just didn't feel fulfilled. You know, there was a piece missing. And – someone had asked me, hey, how have you considered dental sales? And lo and behold, that's how I actually ended the medical market, through dental, and then worked my career through up into surgical sales and interventional cardiology.
And then moved to tracking because I had an interest in digital health. And to be honest, that was just a bit of a fluke. I really didn't understand what I was getting myself into when I moved from surgical sales into tracking. And I fell in love with it. That was over 10 years ago. And how I landed in Rio Tinto was because we did the tracking in healthcare. The foundation of what we do is pretty much the same, except that, you know, it's designed for a hazardous environment. So I was brought over to another company, or at least a sister company, to sell and deliver those projects. for the company called ATP in WA. And so, yes, I was finishing the project in Chatham Ridge, in Mongolia, on staff safety.
And I read the article on RFID and I literally harassed CareTag for a whole year to get that distribute issue because I was that passionate and thought, they've actually nailed it. This is exactly what I'm looking for to solve this problem that I'd seen in our tech.
and the when we say the tracking piece the um because there's physical physical bits and pieces right you're talking about devices like consumables like what what are we tracking
Yeah, so in a hospital environment, we class anything, whether it's mobile or non-mobile, an asset. So we will tag anything that you basically want to have some traceability or visibility on.
