What offseason grades are being handed out for the Southeast Division teams?
Good morning and welcome to the NBA Daily. I'm Dave DeFore here with Espera Henne and Zena Keita. Coming up, we continue our off-season grade series. This time, the Southeast Division. Did Miami get an A by getting Giannis? good morning everybody what is up guys now we've all seen the odyssey it was i was about to say it was right there we are continuing our odyssey our odyssey listen christopher nolan didn't give us any money to talk about his amazing movie what a great movie he doesn't feel like tom cruise guys and magic johnson the movies are back yeah amazing yeah unbelievable storytelling And I still don't know who Olivia Dean is. I do know, guys, who LaMelo Ball is. Let's talk Southeast Division greats.
Did you know who Travis Scott was when he opened up the movie?
No, I did not.
No. I knew it.
I was unaware. I actually, until Zeno was complaining about it before we started recording.
Yeah, that's my only note on The Odyssey. My only note is you could have found a more emphatic bard. A fleet! Yeah.
I was unimpressed.
Travis Scott was barely there. Like, he was just saying words. Listen.
Look, this is a compliment to Christopher Nolan. The fact that he opened up a movie with Travis Scott being the first frame you see. And it's a masterpiece. That goes to show you how how good of a movie this is.
Yeah. Amazing. Anyway, great time. Also, guys, good time to talk about the Hornets. Yes. Southeast Division are one of our favorite teams last year. They kind of came out of nowhere. They won the Summer League championship and that catapulted them. into the play-in um we really i think that that was what catapulted i'm starting this narrative i'm trying to i'm trying to make the tripola thing you know if you win the summer league you win the nba cup you win the title oh yeah yeah we were talking about this at summer league yeah With the Hornets, guys, I think the biggest change, obviously, and it's fundamental. They ship out LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They get back Nas Reed. They also send out Miles Bridges and get Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neal.
They lose Josh Green, also in the LaMelo trade. And then they get Dorian Finney-Smith, who... has not been good in Houston. So I don't know how much we can expect him to contribute in Charlotte. But, Zena, I'm going to start with you. The change from LaMelo Ball to the next version of the team, right? It's Concanipple, it's Brandon Miller, the future. How are you feeling about that when we haven't seen him play a game?
Well, I'm particular, wait, haven't seen who play a game.
We haven't seen this new Hornets team play a game.
Sure, okay. Yeah, but we have absolutely seen Brandon Miller and Con Canipa play. We've also seen Kobe White play and they re-signed Kobe White. And what I particularly, you mentioned all these new people, right? Nas Reed being part of this, they ship out LaMelo, they ship out Miles Bridges. You have forgotten, I think, what makes this an A minus for me is, Picks. Right. Right. They get a 2033 unprotected first round pick. First round swaps in 2028, 2029, 2030 and three future second round picks. That's a lot. Right. This is this is probably the most well set up team for the future. And by the way, we saw what their number 14 pick looked like in Vegas. Hans Seinbach. Looked amazing. I mean, there's a lot of upside to this team.
And that's why I'm giving them that A-. The only minus reason is because, yeah, this year is going to look suspect to your exact point. We haven't seen what Nas Reid will look like in this group. We haven't seen what this new version looks like without LaMelo Ball's basketball. And I say antics in like a good way. Just the things that he does out on the floor. We'll see what it looks like now to have this version that's probably going to be finally more successful. centered around con canipple in the way that we probably all expected to. Um, and then Brandon Miller as well. I don't know that I'm still trying to figure out, but ultimately I feel very good about the Charlotte Hornets future more than anything.
