This is the Cardi Method Podcast. Find your creative and business genius with the Cardi Method.
Hey, welcome to the Cardi Method Podcast. It is me, Steve Cardi. I've been a pro for 36 years. And in that time, I've photographed celebrities from Kanye West to Colin Firth, Sandra O to Tommy York from Radiohead. I've shot for Nike, I've shot for Adidas, I've shot for Apple. I am an Editorial portrait photographer, which means I shoot the faces of today's generation as well as advertising, magazine editorial covers. Ah, and I've been doing it for a long time, three and a half decades. I'm super excited about what we're talking about today, because uh again, it's what we're getting. Yeah. i like I'm trying to resonate with you that like You don't need more followers. Like that's not what's going to change anything for you.
You need more resonance. Because nine hundred people Ignoring you? If that what if that's what's happening? Like if you have 900 people ignoring you today, what makes you think that 9,000 people following you are gonna be any different? Like if you're not converting or getting work from the people who are following you right now. So I know that that's not what most photographers want to hear. Most photographers think the solution is more content, more reels, more posts, more hashtags, more Consistency. But more eyes doesn't solve bad messaging. And that's what we're getting into today. We're getting into how to be magnetic and how to be magnetic with your messaging. Because I see talented photographers making incredible work every single day.
Their lighting is good, their edits are good, their portfolio is good. But guess what? Nobody cares. Nobody cares. Nobody comments. Nobody shares. Nobody hires them. And and they start to believe that the problem is their photography. This is the thing, like social media has really played like a crazy mental game on us photographers. The problem is almost never the photography. The problem's almost never the photography. The problem is communication. Like that's where photographers are missing. And today I wanna introduce t I want to introduce you to one of the most important Concepts that I've learned in business. And it's called magnetic messaging. And if you understand this concept, it can completely change how people respond to your content, your brand, and your business.
You have to understand, like Social media feeds? Like that's a war zone. Social media feeds are a war zone. Let's start with reality. All social media is a war zone. Every time someone opens Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook, or any other platform, they're entering a battle for attention. Your work Isn't competing against photographers. I'm gonna say that again. Like your work when you post a social, it's not competing against other photographers. It's competing against everything. It's competing against Everything. It's competing against celebrities, against influencers, against breaking news, against entertainment. It's competing against cat videos. The algorithm doesn't care if you're talented.
The algorithm doesn't care how long you spent editing. The algorithm doesn't care. If you woke up at seven AM to make the photo.
What is magnetic messaging and how can it change my contentβs impact?
The algorithm cares about one thing. Do people stop when one of your images comes up? Do they stop? Do they care? Do they engage? Do they double tap? Do they comment? Do they stay and hold on that photo and look through your carousel? Most photographers think that better work automatically gets attention. It doesn't. Attention comes from relevance. You guys with me? You with me here? You feeling what we're putting down? Understand that attention comes from relevance. Attention comes from connection. And attention comes from resonance. If your audience doesn't immediately understand why they should care, they're gonna keep scrolling. If they don't know immediately Why they should care they keep scrolling. And remember it's never because your work is bad.
It's because your message Didn't land. That's a completely different problem. It's a very different problem.
