Hello and welcome to The Precap, a Daily Show podcast where we sit down with this week's host to preview what's coming up and what we missed the week before. My name is Devin Delacquanti. I'm a writer at The Daily Show and today I'm joined by this week's host, Desi Lydic. Hello, Desi.
Desi Lydic 1:17
Oh, Dev. Hello. I'm so happy to be here with you.
Devin Delliquanti 1:19
I'm so happy to be here with you.
Desi Lydic 1:21
Sitting all cross-legged and such.
Devin Delliquanti 1:23
You look very comfortable.
Desi Lydic 1:24
I feel very comfortable, and I know I'm putting my shoes on the furniture, and I just want to apologize.
Devin Delliquanti 1:29
We can throw that furniture out. It's fine. Don't stress.
Desi Lydic 1:32
It is in my rider.
Devin Delliquanti 1:33
That's good.
Desi Lydic 1:34
It's in my contract. Every piece of furniture I sit in, it gets thrown out afterwards.
Devin Delliquanti 1:37
A new comfy chair.
Desi Lydic 1:38
I want a new chair next time. That's very good. Yes.
Devin Delliquanti 1:40
Come by our studio. See a pile of chairs. Take them. Classic New York City furniture on the streets.
Yes.
Devin Delliquanti 1:47
That a celebrity sat on and got her grimy New York City shoes on.
Unknown 1:54
Her grimy shoes on this faux leather.
Devin Delliquanti 1:56
So what's going on? It was a big week.
Desi Lydic 1:58
Oh, God.
Devin Delliquanti 1:59
I guess we'll start Oscar nominations. Oh, yes. Those were the big things of last week. Kind of a fun.
Desi Lydic 2:03
Yeah. Some fun, light, exciting news. Oh, it's so exciting. Well, I mean, I will say I was a little disappointed that I didn't get the nomination that I was expecting. Yeah.
Devin Delliquanti 2:14
Were you in any movies last year? No. All right. Well, that's probably the first problem. Well, you would think.
Desi Lydic 2:22
But if there's one thing that Trump taught us, it's that whoever does win the Oscar, I can just invade their territory and take it from them.
Devin Delliquanti 2:30
Or you can get them to give it to you because you deserved it.
Desi Lydic 2:33
Through manipulation. Yes. Yes.
Devin Delliquanti 2:36
And bribery tactics. Maria Karina Machado wins an Oscar. Wins that Oscar. I deserve that Oscar. And then she's like, I would like to present you my Oscar in honor of your acting.
Desi Lydic 2:49
Oh, me? Who, me? I hardly thought about it. I'd love to thank my agents.
Sure.
Desi Lydic 2:55
my entire cabinet that supported this move.
Devin Delliquanti 2:59
Very good.
Desi Lydic 2:59
So flattered.
Devin Delliquanti 3:00
So deserving. Yeah. So deserving.
Desi Lydic 3:02
What were you most excited about? Of the nominations that came out, what were you like, oh, that person deserves it?
Devin Delliquanti 3:11
It was nice to see Sinners break the record for nominations, I think. Huge. That movie was so kind of unexpected and you know I feel like the Oscar movies are always like end of the year but like it just I remember when it came out everyone's like oh you gotta go see it and see it in a theater and Michael B. Jordan's so great in it the music is so great like all the musicians who were a part of it are phenomenal and very like genre bending unexpected so it's nice to see a film like that celebrated one battle after another also great I'm glad so many of the performers in that got nominations and Paul Thomas Anderson. Such a great director. Incredible. So, yeah, I was excited about all that. And K-pop demon hunters.
Desi Lydic 3:50
I mean, I mean, come on.
Devin Delliquanti 3:51
Listen to that soundtrack a hundred thousand times in my car with my kids.
Desi Lydic 3:55
So even though your kids keep begging you to turn it off, you just won't do it.
Devin Delliquanti 3:59
They are bops and I will learn. They have to learn to respect them. Catchy music. Yeah.
Desi Lydic 4:05
Those songs are daggone catchy.
Devin Delliquanti 4:07
What do you say?
Desi Lydic 4:08
Well, also just celebrating people getting back into the theater, putting butts in seats, seeing movies the way that the directors intended people to see them. So important.
Devin Delliquanti 4:18
Yeah. And what movies did you see in theaters this year?
Desi Lydic 4:20
Not a one.
Devin Delliquanti 4:21
I have not seen one.
Desi Lydic 4:23
That's it. Yet. Yet.
