Our favorite independent journalist is going to be arraigned today. They came up with some charges. We'll talk to you about what those are. But the crime he's really being accused of is journalism. But today I am in as guest host to be with you at least through the first hour where we discuss how we got here. what's happening right now in Minnesota. where Don did his live show this morning. I was with you for Hot Topics, but now he is preparing to be arraigned.
What is an arraignment even? What does any of it mean? And as I said, how did we get here? But first, welcome Lemon Nation. Welcome Lemon Heads. Welcome Lemon Legends. Welcome everybody who regularly supports Don's channel and supports his work. We thank you for joining us, not just today, but so many days where we know you count on Don and count on this channel in order to get the best information, the experts, the news that you need and the information that matters. On January 18th, which was a Sunday in Minnesota, there was what's called a pop-up protest. where a group of protesters that was headed by Nekima Levy Armstrong has for years been actively protesting, popping up different places and protesting actions in the Minnesota area around St.
Paul, Minneapolis, Minnesota. They held a pop-up protest that day, which Don Lemon and Georgia Ford as journalisms learned of and covered. We know that what they were doing was covering it as journalists because you can go So January 18th, right here on Don's channel, you can watch the entire live stream. You can watch what happened in the church that day. You can hear Don talking about being there to cover the events saying he's not a protester saying he's there to cover the story. You can see him interviewing people, getting reactions, describing what's happening. But after that day, after Don did his work as a journalist that day, after George did her work as a journalist that day, oh, the Trump administration hopping mad.
MAGA hopping mad. Not just at the people who were protesting, but at the nerve of an independent journalist for actually covering the news. After multiple failed attempts by Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice at the behest of Donald Trump. After multiple failed attempts to get a judge to sign off on an arrest warrant for our host, our friend, Don Lemon, they actually even bothered to take it to a court of appeals where a judge said there was no probable cause, where a court of appeals said there's no emergency here. If you're trying to get your arrest, you know how to do it. They went to a grand jury, which is a closed proceeding where the defendant's not there or even informed of it, where the defendant's lawyers are not there or even informed of it, where it's just a prosecutor.
It's just a prosecutor and a jury. And they say whatever they say. And we may never know what it is they said in order to get that indictment. But they did. They got an indictment for Don. They got an indictment for Georgia Ford, another independent journalist. who's based in the Minnesota Minneapolis area. And in the wee morning hours of Friday, January 30th, when Don was in Los Angeles covering the Grammys, they showed up in the middle of the night in their full gear. They sent federal law enforcement to facilitate his arrest and they detained him there. in a federal detention facility in Los Angeles until after 5 p.m., close to 6 p.m. the next day after he had to present himself and be released on a signature bond.
