Because we had an exclusive interview yesterday that we ran some of it, and because we got it so late we didn't get a chance to put it all on. But also there's some really important things that we needed to analyze.
So yesterday, as you know, is an emotional day. For Christine and Elmore. Um Wandsley. And wells. Um here's the thing. It was an emotional day for everyone, especially for them. It's been an emotional time for the country. This country has been really keyed into this story. Just look at how difficult it was. For they stood there and they spoke about their son Nolan Exavier Wells who left home. And what should have been one of the happiest weekends of a summer, Fourth of July weekend, a trip with friends, a kind of weekend the teenager should remember for the rest of his life. But Nolan never returned home. His friends came back, his phone came back, but he did not. And then two days later, his body was recovered from the water near Horn Island.
And from that moment Christine and Elmore were not given the space. They weren't given the space to simply grieve their child. They were forced to become investigators. They had to reconstruct timelines. Challenge assumptions. demand records and stand before cameras begging for answers about their son their own son I think that that is Cruel. Think about how cruel that is. You've just lost your child and instead of being allowed to mourn, you are forced to fight. You forced to get answers. Wait a minute. They're saying that my son Died and pretty much they think it's an accident before an a a real investigation is even been conducted. And then America put Nolan and his parents on trial. I I know you know what I'm talking about.
People online dissected Nolan's friendships, his decisions, his final hours, as if his death was some sort of entertainment story. Right on Sheila Patrick. It was not entertainment. People scrutinized his parents' grief. Question their motives. Demanded that they prove why they deserved answers. Answer me this. Since when does a grieving mother have to perform her pain convincingly enough? For the public. Oh, she d I you and you know you've heard it. And some of you have but may have said it. Well, she doesn't seem like she's grieving. Why is she out here? Sh and some people are like, She seems like she's enjoying this. Really? You can't you don't you As someone who has suffered enormous Grief and loss are There's no playbook or rule book on how you should conduct yourself.
Some one moment you're okay and then one moment you're not. Sometimes you overperform, sometimes you're smiling, sometimes you're present you're presenting. Sometimes you're performing for the people. In my case, I had to perform for the cameras even in the in the midst of my grief. Since when does a father have to defend the character of his dead son before he is permitted to ask how that son died?
