What happened to the Warriors in the Dolphins match and what’s next for their playoff?
So the Warriors went down to the Dolphins on Saturday night, but the good news is they still have one more home playoff in the NRL finals. Uh they will be taking on the Knights in Auckland on Sunday evening, but the game has been moved from Go Media Stadium to Eden Park. Joining us now, Eden Park's CEO, Nick Sortner. Nick, um what what are we gonna do to make sure that this is as unhospitable to the Newcastle Knights as possible?
Good morning gents and thanks for your time. As you can imagine, we want fifty thousand warriors found here from Gate Opening and make it the fortress uh for the warriors. We want them to br every person should uh be required to bring in a sign, um show their support, show their colours, um, and make this as hostile as possible. So it was a bit of a surprise obviously with Saturday's performance, but um and uh now we've we've moved the game one week forward but uh that being said uh we're prepared.
Um, I know that you because you guys lay out the red carpet for guests at Eden Park. I know that. I've been there myself.
How is Eden Park planning to make the venue hostile for the Newcastle Knights?
The facilities are great. Now that that's my concern at the moment. And uh I'm looking at the away changing sheds and we need to make that look, the Newcastle Knights, they come from Newcastle, so their expect expectations are pretty low when it comes to just a general um urban uh sprawl. But we need to make that changing room as hostile as possible. Is there any chance we can ripple the carpet out? out, we can maybe hose it down, uh, leave some gifts in there, whether it's a greenlit muscle underneath the cistern lid of the toilets. Um what what's Eden Park gonna do to try and, you know, make it as hostile as possible for them?
Well, it turns out um we're doing some renovations in the way changing. Um they were gonna be ready for the next week. Um so there won't be power, there won't be hot water, and actually there won't be lockers. So other than that, they'll be fine. Perfect.
What renovations are being done to the away changing rooms and how will they affect the Knights?
That's
exactly what we need,
Nick.
When did you guys find out that uh Eden Parker be hosting this game? Was it pretty much yesterday?
Well, with twenty minutes to go in the game, um that sort of changed, didn't it? And uh the WhatsApp messages started and uh there was correspondence on Saturday night and looking at um scheduling, uh what time, what day, and then uh Cameron George and I talked early on Sunday morning, uh had confirmation from the NRL and uh and then now we're in a position we wanna sell fifty thousand tickets, we want to see every every Warrior stand from across the country behind
Team. Are you worried at all that the the Warriors don't have an amazing record at Eden Park? Is there anything we can do to try and help on that in on that front?
Well, we're opening the outer oval early. They'll be doing captains runs and training sessions here during the week to get familiar. The reality is probably there wouldn't be a player in that side that's played.
When do tickets go on sale and what are the different purchase windows for members and the public?
Um at Eden Park for a uh NRL game. I'm sure there's been players that have played internationally here. Uh so I I mean the Warriors are good enough to win at any ground and to win a premiership in the NRL you've got to be able to win at a core stadium. So they've got to be able to win at uh any facility and uh this week we're gonna make sure with the support behind them that the place is chokers.
And what's the details with uh tickets? I know last week a lot of people missed out. There's now twenty five ish thousand more tickets available. When do they go on sale?
Yeah, so today um competing club members are at twelve noon. Then um members without a ticket, so non-ticketed members, they come on at six PM today and then general public uh Tuesday the fifteenth at uh twelve o'clock. So we just wanna make sure tick tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
Why is the Warriors’ record at Eden Park a concern and how can the venue help improve it?
Um don't miss out. This is gonna be this will be the biggest game in league history. in the country and we want to see the place um fall to the rafters.
Yeah, hell yeah. They are I'm totally behind ya, Nick Sautner, Eden Park CEO. Uh I'm still keen to sneak in there and put a greenlit muscle under the cistern of the uh away changing sheds.
