And I'm I haven't gotten through all of it, but um my eyes uh were able to see the entire joint practice today. But uh welcome back. I mean we used to do this for many years. How many how many total years did we do this for?
Uh well we did it from two thousand and two until two thousand and fourteen.
Yeah, so yeah, twelve, thirteen years, something like that. Yeah,
let's see how much longer we can go. I think we can figure it out. All right, and we're gonna do our best. Yeah. Uh the Jags figured it out today. By the way, we are at the team hotel in New Orleans where the Jaguars arrived last night. Practice today with the New Orleans Saints at their practice facility, and we heard from the head coach right after practice his overall perspective on what got done at the training facility in Mettery.
It was nice to see the the skilled players keep making some plays out there. Uh I thought Trevor settled in defensively. I think from what I understand we stopped the run well. There was a couple explosive passes that we gotta clean up and look at. But overall great work. I mean, you know, had a couple of little things, but no big fights or anything. I just it was good quality work that you can't simulate at home.
Jeff, this is the preseason now. I I was talking with James Gladstone in the lunchroom before we left Jacksonville. I said, James, tell me if I'm right about this. These joint practices are are getting ready for the season and the preseason games are about development. Finding out who belongs on your roster, who belongs on your practice squad, and who doesn't necessarily earn a spot.
Yeah, I I think the the joint practices are are are a great tool for coaches to com I mean because here's reality. The the coaches have an idea of who they believe is going to be able to help their team win. And and when I say who I'm talking a percentage, you know, let's say eighty percent. Uh well you still got to figure out that other twenty percent and how everything is going to kind of fit uh because you don't have a lot of track record on that twenty percent. And so with the joint practices, what it allows you to do is it allows you to get work with the guys that you know about in a very controlled environment to where they're not going to be exposed out there on the playing field with somebody who's trying to make an impression and is out of

Exactly. And so you c like today, for example, the joint practice today, the starters took I would say sixty five percent of the snaps in practice today.
How are undrafted free agents influencing the Jaguars roster this preseason?
And so there were probably a lot of younger guys that felt a little off and that, hey, look, how come I didn't get my opportunity in practice? Well their opportunity is gonna come Saturday afternoon. And that's also one of the reasons why the Jaguars have been able to attract a lot of undrafted free agents. And this is kind of goes to the Rams philosophy where Sean McVeigh and Les Sneed they they've done this in LA. And that look, if you have a draft, okay, the draft picks don't have a choice in coming to your franchise. Right. The the undrafted guys though, for example, which the Jaguars let's perfect example, BJ Green and Danny Strigo last year, two good players. Branson Combs. Branson Combs, another one who's fighting for a starting job.
Yep. Okay. You are able to attract them based on selling them the fact that, hey, look, We believe that our starters aren't gonna play a lot in the preseason. So if you come here as an undrafted guy, you're gonna have a great opportunity because you're gonna play a lot in the preseason and your tape is gonna get out there to all the personnel guys in the league.
