What position battles are coaches most excited to see this week?

Unknown 0:00
Coach, i is there a uh a position battle you're eager to see both on Thursday and Saturday?
Anthony Campanile 0:06
All of 'em. Um no, I mean uh we're excited to to see the guys all go out there and compete. You know, there's some really uh pretty contested battles, so we'll find out a lot more uh after this week. So is there a
Unknown 0:18
group that maybe is a little bit more competitive because there are so many good guys in it? It's a deep
Anthony Campanile 0:24
Yeah, I feel like we got, you know, a really good we got a good depth really at every position. So um, you know, the linebacker room, there's been some moving parts. We've had some guys out with injuries, so new guys coming in. I think Tem's done a very good job getting those guys ready. Uh that's obviously a room where guys are gonna be competing. Uh the D Bs, I think some of the young guys are really starting to come on and learn it a little bit better. So we're seeing a little bit more production out of those young guys as well.
Unknown 0:47
Liam noted yesterday just with some of the attrition how thin some of the groups are getting. How do you balance that knowing you want to get the ones and twos good work on Thursday, you also want to keep them healthy, but also you want to see from those young guys missing Saturday, but you also want to keep them healthy.
Anthony Campanile 1:01
Yeah, I mean part of this time of year is you gotta develop a callus and you know, guys are gonna get banged up. Uh it it's what happens. Obviously nobody wants that to to be the case, but when you go out there, uh you really need to see some good on good action, you know, and and playing the Saints I think will be a great opportunity for us to do that. Uh we expect the guys to be going full throttle when we go in practice, you know, and give us the our best their best effort uh when they get that out there in the game. Hey Campbell, Matt Dickerson ended last year with a big role. Has he sort of picked up where he left off last year? He has. Matt has done a really, really good job. I think even in the off season, um, in his downtime, he was out working with some guys, um, just getting better.
Anthony Campanile 1:38
He's come in, he's really just physically strong at the point of attack. So that showed up and he's really a he's a tough guy. He's really um what you what you love about our defense in terms of He's always doing his job. It's important to him. He's a great teammate.

How is Matt Dickerson’s role evolving after his big 2023 season?

Anthony Campanile 1:53
Um so I love coaching the guy.
Unknown 1:58
Thud hitting in a joint practice different than thud hinting thud hinting in a
Anthony Campanile 2:05
In a I think um I think you're you're always coaching for it to be the same thing, you know, how you enter, um if you're entering near foot, if you're entering great with great pad level, some of those things that sound like they're cliche, you know, and things we've heard since we were little kids playing pee-wee football, like low man wins, that's all real. So in the individual, that's where you gotta be training. Um and I think that when you get out there against somebody else, anytime you're competing with with even you know our offense and we get an opportunity to go compete in a joint practice right now. You're testing that. So hopefully it's all the same thing. You know, we're running violently through contact.
Anthony Campanile 2:39
The fight starts on contact so hopefully we have g uh like great leg drive uh throughout this next week.
Unknown 2:45
Or join practices something that you've always gotten value out of throughout your career and you get you know, to help you in the evaluation process here, also.
Anthony Campanile 2:51
Yeah, I I think the guys get excited about it, you know, any time you're playing against somebody else, so that's what's exciting about it and then um you know, just to see how how everybody fares when the lights go on, that's what's that's what's fun about it for me.
Unknown 3:04
Well, you control things a little bit better in the joint practice as far as getting certain guys' reps in certain situations. Is it better than a game in that regard?
Anthony Campanile 3:13
In a game, yeah, maybe in a maybe a preseason game, but in practice I think we're always trying to do that, even against ourselves. You know, you're scripting who's in when, um, what you wanna see.
