Cal, I want to start with you and Marco Rubio, your US Secretary of State, seems to know better than British prosecutors what happened in an incident over the weekend at an airbase in Britain, which was used primarily by American military forces. Because five men were arrested early Sunday and suspicion of explosive violations and of preparing a terrorist act. But then they got bail, which would suggest that the authorities aren't particularly worried about the danger posed by those five individuals.
Well, I've just written about uh this uh for a cop my column on Thursday, Matt, so it's fresh in my mind. But look, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck, it's probably a duck. Let's remember that Iran has threatened uh violent uh action against any nation that uh supports the US in its bombing of that country. So what you had here, you had three vans, you had five mass Men within a hundred yards of this Air Force base, used, as you say, to uh uh conduct uh bombing raids against uh Iran. So the fact that they didn't find any explosive devices doesn't say much to me. It could have been a trial run. And Secretary Rubio on uh Fox last night said that there's more information available.
He can't talk about it right now. Uh he did praise the British uh for Their cooperation. But my big question is: why did it take a farmer? A farmer noticed these guys and their vans. Where were cameras? Where were patrols? Why didn't the airbase have some kind of security that would monitor people getting too close to it who had uh ill intentions? So that's my big question.
Okay. Marion McCone, what do you make of this? Because they were uh given bail and the suggestion is that merely what they were doing was robbing diesel.
Yeah, you know, I think that just on Carl's uh last question there, which I think is a really valid question, why didn't cameras pick it up? Well, presumably there must be cameras or some kind of surveillance around these bases. They can't be leaving it down to the local farmers to monitor them. So it would suggest to me that maybe the bases themselves didn't see anything that they thought was necessarily worth um pursuing or or, you know, um running around their hair and fire over. So It seems that, yeah, you know, if they were stealing diesel or or, you know, up to some kind of a prank or whatever, um, that would seem, you know, releasing them on bail would seem to be a perfectly adequate response to that.
And I think Marco Rubio is making a bit of an ass of himself, um, saying, Oh, well, it's a very serious situation, and it could be a very serious situation, but I can't tell you any more about it now. Um, you know, is just idiotic. You know, let's just Wait and see. Uh they they were picked up, they were presumably interviewed, etcetera. A decision was made to release on bail. Again, you don't release terrorists on bail, you know, as a general rule. So or would be just
Suspected terrorists because they haven't been convicted of anything yet.
Yeah, you know, um so you d you know, if if somebody is suspected of of some kind of nefarious activity along those lines, they're not released on bail.

Well, you probably heard the old adage, uh Matt, uh hold your uh uh enemies uh hold your friends close and hold your enemies closer. Uh it does the United States uh no good to say bad things and to act in a bad way against China. We uh we are engaged uh not only in AI uh competition with uh the communist Chinese government, but we also Have the tensions with Taiwan. The president said nothing has changed. The Taiwan Relations Act and uh and and the uh the fact that uh the United States policy is still one China.
