Today's GM tip related to that is tips for running high-level 5e games. I've been running a lot of high-level 5e games. I have tips to offer. And we're gonna cover more questions from the Patreon QA all today on the Lazy RPG. Talk show. I'm Mike Shea, your pal from Sly Flourish, here to talk about all things in tabletop role-playing games. Today on Sly Flourish, uh, last week we had the article Procedures. Uh, procedures is an article that talks about the sets of rules, sets of of steps we walk through for particular scenes of our game, like exploration, dungeon crawling, for Maybe scenes of intrigue, maybe downtime scenes, and uh w when you should use these frameworks, when you should use these procedures, which games have them, which don't, what exactly that means, and how you can customize them for your own game.
So we have an article that talks all about procedures and bringing these uh ideas to your games, even if the game that you are playing doesn't really have hardened procedures. So uh fun article and uh A neat one, you know, fun to kind of look at, like, hey, here are the things that you can find in Dolmanwood that you could use in your dagger heart game, for example. So neat things like that. That was the article called Procedures. Next week's article is What Excites You? The idea of this article is that sometimes when we're having trouble getting motivated to prep for our game, one of the tricks we can do is think about our game and think about the part of it that excites us and use That as the catalyst for our prep.
So it could be a monster, it could be a map, it could be just a scene that you've got, it could be like a surprise that you're gonna expose, it could be anything that you are excited about in your game and how you can use that excitement to help motivate yourself to get through your prep to get ready for the game, because it's very easy to get paralyzed with the wide open nature of all of the things that we could do when we're prepping for our game. It's easy to get kind of caught up in the daily grind of everything else that we've got going on our lives. And sometimes it's hard to get ourselves motivated to do the prep for the game, even though we know it's good, even though we know where it's going to be a lot of fun, even though that it's important for us to get together with our friends regularly.
Sometimes we get demotivated to do that. And the idea here is that you can kind of focus on the thing that excites you the most. Is it a magic item? Is it a spell? Is it a monster? Is it a map? Whatever Whatever it is, take that and then kind of build out from that. Focus that on your prep and then build out from that and think about the fun parts. What are the fun parts of the thing that you're gonna run? I find this all the time. I've been running games for 30 years, I don't know, 40 years, long time. More, I think about 40 years now. And you know, I still get excited about the next game I'm gonna run because ooh, you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna do this thing, and it's gonna be really fun. It could be an encounter, it could be lots of stuff.
So that is the idea of what excites you. You can find this article on SlyFlarish.com. You can also have this article emailed to you directly by subscribing to the Sly Flourish newsletter. There is a link down in the show notes to do so. Totally free to sign up. I don't overspam people.
