Francesca Rudkin 0:01
Hi, I'm Francesca Rudkin. And I'm Louise Erick. Welcome to Season 6 of our New Zealand Herald podcast, The Little Things.
Louise Ayrey 0:07
In this podcast, we talk to experts and we find out all the little things you need to know to improve different areas of your life. We cut through all the confusion and the overload of information out there to help simplify life. Hey, I so enjoyed our podcast that we did with Caitlin Taylor and I've had so much feedback on it. And do you know what everybody said to me? The one thing that struck them that they're thinking about constantly when they get dressed?
Francesca Rudkin 0:30
Tell me, I think it's probably the same thing I'm thinking about when I get dressed. The wow?
Louise Ayrey 0:35
Yes. Yeah. Everyone, even my partners come home from work going, I sat in a meeting today while a couple of women spoke about your podcasts and they were going on and on about the wow and how that's changed the way they think about dressing and things. So that's the workhorse?
Yeah.
Louise Ayrey 0:47
Yeah, you have your workhorse gear and then you pick one item, your one thing that's going to be your wow item. So you don't have to worry about everything else. You just pick this one thing and you throw it together. It's brilliant. No, it's been very, very helpful to a lot of people. And then we pre-recorded a podcast recently, Louise, and you rocked up to work in a blazer and a nice jersey and your track pants. I did. I styled my track suit pants.
Francesca Rudkin 1:13
Yeah. I mean, did it work? I'm not sure.
Louise Ayrey 1:15
No, it did.
Francesca Rudkin 1:16
Did it? I did wear it for the rest of the day.
Louise Ayrey 1:17
I mean, you did have to point it out to us because Kerry, our producer and myself, we completely missed it. But when we noticed it, you look great.
Francesca Rudkin 1:23
My word, was I comfortable. Having said that, I took the blazer off, had to go run to the bathroom, walk through the NZME offices and felt like kind of naked, like I was in my bathrobe. But I think it's just because I was so comfortable, not because it didn't still look fine.
Louise Ayrey 1:38
Do you know what I mean? So the one thing I took out of when we were talking to Caitlin, I think I made the comment that my bras really were not of any use to me anymore because I'm so lazy. I just love a really comfortable bra, which basically means that the bra is falling off me. So I went to Bendon, sale, went in there, met Patricia. Now, Patricia knows her bras. I said to her, I want simplicity and I want comfort. First bra I put on, absolutely perfect. Second bra, I said, oh, it's a bit, no, put it on, perfect. And I could not believe the difference. All my outfits actually look and feel completely different because my tits are back where they're supposed to be. Yeah. Which is great. Although she did look at me at one point.
Louise Ayrey 2:19
She was like, well, so I said, look, I really love the bra I'm wearing. And she took a look at it and she basically said something along the lines of, we should dig a hole, have a funeral and blow that. And then I looked at myself in the mirror and I went, you know what, Patricia? You're absolutely right. So they have, they've gone in the bin. Off they've gone. I didn't dig a hole and have a funeral for them and bury them.
Francesca Rudkin 2:38
And she was probably super grateful because I think a lot of women do go bra shopping and they think they know what they want or they just want to buy the same thing.
Louise Ayrey 2:44
Just tell them to get you sorted. Just say, hey, this is what I want. I want this, this, this. You want this. I wanted this line, that, that. Tell them whether you want sexy or what you want. They know their bras. She was fantastic. So thanks to Patricia, things are back where they belong, which is good. We're all grateful for that.
Francesca Rudkin 3:01
Now, onto today's topic. Like, do you feel like it's a kind of super hit and miss what peri-midlife and wear and tear afflictions you get as we age, Francesca? Yeah, absolutely. And I don't think between us that we have shared many of the same symptoms when we go on walks and things and talk about stuff, you know, that come with the lucky dip of ageing. But collectively, I feel like we have hit a good number of what seem to be quite typical things in midlife.
