Treasury Secretary Scott Besson instead tapping Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Michael Falkinder to take the role.
CNN citing three sources saying Mr. Shapley had the support of congressional Republicans and of Elon Musk, but had not been approved by Secretary Besant prior to his appointment by President Trump. Secretary Besant was out of the country when Shapley's appointment was announced.
