MeidasTouch host Brett Meiselas reports on a disastrous Oval Office meeting between Donald Trump and El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, which took place as Trump openly defied a Supreme Court order requiring him to facilitate the return of a man "mistakenly" deported to a prison camp in El Salvador. What happened at the Oval Office meeting between Trump and El Salvador's president?
Donald Trump just held a disastrous meeting in the Oval Office with El Salvador's autocratic president, Nayib Bukele. I am not being hyperbolic when I say that this was one of the single most shameful meetings to ever take place in the Oval Office in American history.
Trump spread Russian propaganda, said he'll be defying a ruling from the Supreme Court, and said he's looking into sending American citizens to concentration camps in El Salvador. What we are witnessing right now is a full-blown constitutional crisis, and we must not avert our eyes to the reality unfolding in the United States of America. I gotta say, the difference between the respect that Trump shows to autocrats compared to our allies, like Ukrainian President Zelensky, for example, is striking.
And by the way, Bukele did not wear a suit, but that did not seem to bother Trump and his administration this time. As Midas Touch editor-in-chief Ron Filipkowski said, quote, In this moment, Caitlin Collins asked Trump if he plans to ask to return Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, that's the man the Trump administration admitted to sending to an El Salvadoran prison camp, by, quote, mistake.
Trump attacked the press and then Attorney General Pam Bondi lied about Abrego Garcia's past and immigration status. As a reminder, he was here legally and said that it's up to El Salvador if they want to return him to the United States. Watch this.
Let's hear the question from this very low rated anchor at CBN.
Do you plan to ask President Bukele to help return the man who your administration says was mistakenly deported? The man who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador?
Well, let me ask Pam, would you answer that question?
Sure, President. First and foremost, he was illegally in our country. He had been illegally in our country. And in 2019, two courts, an immigration court and an appellate immigration court, ruled that he was a member of MS-13 and he was illegally in our country. Right now, it was additional paperwork that needed to be done. That's up to El Salvador if they want to return him. That's not up to us.
