Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
this is a podcast from rover
Oh, and we've got her. That was at Madison Square Garden. Creative History won the IBF WBO and Ring Magazine Super Middleweight titles last weekend, beating Shadesia Green. Ninth round TKO. Lani Daniels, good morning.
Congrats. Good morning.
Hey, mate, how good? How does it feel to be a world champion? Talk us through how these last few days have gone a real whirlwind of emotions and everything, I bet.
Oh, man, I'm still tripping out about it, to be honest. Like, I didn't come home with the actual bouts itself, so it's still like making sense of it all. Yeah, it still doesn't feel real. And when you get home and the first thing you're doing is milking cows and feeding the pigs. It's like, oh, did I even leave? It's so good.
Just on that, because Rav, who had sussed this chat, right? Ravinda Hunia, yeah. And she was like, sorry, I've asked Lani about if the time works for a chat, but she's just out picking up pig shit. Yeah. And she'll come back to us soon. I was like, that's so New Zealand, though. You've gone straight from Madison Square Garden back to the farm up north.
Yeah, well, our pig had 20 piglets, so I had to help them latch on.
You're actually watching it now, bizarrely. So was there like a note when you got home, like, Lani, go and feed the pigs?
My dad's the note. He just starts yelling out, come on, come on, we have to go do these pigs. They've just been born. He actually went over to milk his cows and then he could hear the squealing. So yeah, we ended up doing that first and then the cows.

Chapter 2: How does it feel to be a world champion?
Let's go back to that moment where the referee called the fight. You had her in all sorts of trouble. Obviously, she was hospitalized after taking it on a stretcher, which is unfortunate, but apparently she's okay now. What was that moment like in your head for that moment where you were like, holy heck, I've just won.
I've won the belt. It literally was that. I shocked myself. I think, you know, I shocked the world, but I definitely shocked myself. Going into that fight, I had a strong feeling that I was going to win. I don't know, I just felt like this was my chance and this was my moment and I just had a real strong sense that I was going to win. It was the stoppage that got me. Yeah, we're so proud of you.
Now, your name, The Smiling Assassin, how did that all come about?
So one of my workmates, when I was working with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Community Service in Whangarei, I lined up my first professional fight and the promoter asked me for a fight name. And I was like, well, I don't know. I just want to fight. And I just asked my colleagues and that was what one of them gave back to me. And I was like, oh, yeah, that's a pretty cool name.
I thought it was quite cheesy to begin with, but over time I've kind of grown into it.
That's great.
Suits you.
You've had, obviously there's a hell of a story and a background story like there always is for everybody, but, you know, you didn't get it the first time you tried round and now you get this success, which makes it maybe even sweeter. The story of how the people in your team, you know, like I know, we all know, but I know Daniela Dandy, your coach. Yeah. She's an absolute legend.
And to have someone like her, a former world champion herself, in your corner, giving you that sort of pep talk. People like Shane Cameron helping you out with equipment. Like, this is a real case and example of the village, eh, coming together to help create the champion.

Chapter 3: What was the moment like when you realized you won the fight?
It's right throughout history from your Muhammad Ali's and Mike Tyson's and Floyd Mayweather's. I mean, Israel Adesanya, like everyone's fought there.
I know. And now Lani Daniels has. Yeah, girl.
The smiling assassin, Lani Daniels. World champ. So good to have you on. So stoked for you. Thanks, Lani. Congratulations. Thank you. Thanks for having me. No worries. I know Bryce was after some home kill. Some of those 20 piglets will be baking for Christmas, won't they?
My dad will cut a cheap deal. He's a hustler from way back.
Mate, I'm actually heading up north today, up whฤnau. I'm going to Rangiputa.
I'll see you soon.
Oh, nice. Lani, hey, thanks, mate.
Congrats. Yeah, thank you so much. Thanks for having me on as well. Anytime. Congrats.
Amazing. No worries, man. We were talking about it first thing on that over the weekend, sending it to each other that we talked about it first thing from Monday morning. So we were stoked.

Chapter 4: How did Lani Daniels get her nickname, The Smiling Assassin?
It's just all over my feed. It's so good.
Oh my gosh, I did that.
We're off air now, but it's fucking awesome. And I loved seeing how, even with that Crowd Goes Wild piece, because Miles here obviously works for Crowd Goes Wild, but how they'd come out to see you at the airport and then you were in the comments going, Oi, can I please have that name sign?
I think they thought I was joking. No, we'll get it to you. I'll make sure Taylor sends it. Oh, really?
Yeah. Oh, yes.
Yeah, I'll make sure Taylor sends it.
Oh, man.
