What are the highlights of the 83rd Golden Globes red carpet?
You want to rush everything, huh? The story has to burn slowly with immense payoff 12 seasons down the line. This isn't Stranger Things. Do you know who I am? Say my name. You're Vince Gilligan. You're goddamn right.
Hello and welcome. Welcome to the Nerve Golden Globes Live. I am your host, Maureen Callahan. I'm actually your co-host. Teddy's here. Teddy Van Halen is here.
What controversies surrounded Vince Gilligan's comments?
He's like, hey, give me my screen time. I dress up for nothing. We're so excited to have you with us for the live stream. And we're paying attention to the live chat right now. on deck with us celebrity reporter extraordinaire rob shooter welcome rob and tim the celebrity makeup artist tim mckay here with us in absentia Timmy Shyamalama ding dong ping pong. His top shit is right here with two different facial expressions. And behind us in a grotto as memorialized, like a religious figure, like a martyr she is, it's Meghan Markle and her as ever bubbly, which we're gonna break open halfway through this little... Extravaganza, welcome to us. Hey, thanks for having us. Is this our first time doing a live stream or?
This is our second live stream. Second time. It's gonna be even better than the first. That's what they say. That's what they say. So at the top of that, I don't know if you guys are familiar, this was allegedly, reportedly, Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and now Pluribus on Apple TV, the highly awarded, critically recognized Pluribus, having a meltdown on set saying, this isn't fucking Stranger Things. Get real. I'm Vince Gilligan. Say my name. Rob, have you ever? I'm sure you have. Yeah, I think this happens a lot. What doesn't happen is we don't get to hear about it very often. But now I think with the different ways that television movies are being made and the fact we've all got one of these in our pockets, it means now that these outtakes are delicious.
I remember it with magazines too. We'd never get to see the untouched covers of those now we do and so now i think truth and authenticness is a good thing yes i agree completely um tim what is your reaction to the vince gilligan meltdown alleged reported meltdown I love it. I think back to Tom Cruise on the set of Mission Impossible 7, having a huge meltdown. And I love it. Let's give credit to the OG Christian Bale. You better believe it. Get the fuck out of my shot. That one, that's the truth. That is the truth. Poetry. Pure poetry out of Christian Bale. Well, before we get to, you know, the stars are coming in on the red carpet and, you know, the closer we get to the 8 p.m. start time is when the real A-listers show up.
So we thought we'd begin before we get to the red carpet with a little recap of some of our nominees and the work that we really think they should be awarded for. Rob's already laughing. And I'm here, by the way, with my Bill Mahertini. Marlena actually had this made for me. This was my Christmas gift from her. It's got an M on it, and it's a Mahertini. There's never been one. This woman doesn't love. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers, little devil. Teddy doesn't drink. But, okay, so George Clooney is up for J. Kelly, a movie I really wanted to like, I thought I would like, I could not get through it. I actually think he should have been nominated for this particular role. Here we go.
This idea of using government to scare or fine or use corporations to make journalists smaller. governments don't like the freedom of the press they never have and that goes for whether you are a conservative or a liberal or whatever side you're on they don't like the press
George's favorite thing to do is pretend in his actual real life that he's not an actor or a movie star, but that he's a journalist. And he loves to go on shows like 60 Minutes or go on CNN and school real journalists on how to be real journalists, which I love. I think he should get the Globe for that. He even plays journalists. I saw him on Broadway in Good Night and Good Look where he played a journalist. So his dad's a journalist. And I think he feels like it's probably more noble than being an actor.
