Ray, Alcee, so great to see you guys. Good to see you too, man. All right, so third day of practice here in training camp. We're going to run this in the future when fans are watching and listening to it. But are you envious of guys being out here non-padded practice on the third day?
I would say that good for them. I mean, we didn't get that luxury because a lot of times we came in those first two weeks. Most of the time we was going to have two days, two padded practices and probably three hour practices in both sessions. So good for them. Those guys, the longevity for them in the long term, they probably get to play extra four or five years longer than we did. So I'm proud of them. Good. They get to do it.
Right, compared to 1994. Yeah, right. From a defensive perspective, you know, you always want to go into camp and set the tone for the season, actually, you know, the culture. And, you know, not having pads on, you know, not being able to crack a little bit, you know, that's kind of a different thing. You know, I don't think that that's a... I'm not envious of him as far as being a defensive player, but that's just the way it is today. The health and the longevity is, like Lavernius was saying, that's important.
The sports science deal is crazy. The Jets just demoed their old weight room. They have a temporary weight room set up that's 70% bigger than the old structure, and they're going to build a performance... That is 250% bigger than the whole weight room. So what was Regen like when you played?
Well, I don't think we had Regen, whatever that is. We was in Hofstra when we started playing. And we ate in our weight room. So that tells you kind of how our facilities was back then. So for these guys to have all of this great technology and stuff that helped them out, and performing on the field. I think it's a plus. I mean, the times are where they are. The kids are benefiting off of the work that older players put in, just like we benefited from the guys before us. So I think if they continue to keep growing and getting the sport where it is and protecting the guys, it's only going to get bigger and better for them. So I look forward to the future and hopefully I'm around to see where it goes in the next 20, 30 years.
Well, you'll be around. No, I agree. It only matters though. If you use it, you know, you got all of this stuff, man, bells and whistles. And, and if you don't buy into it, if you don't actually use it, you know, then, then, you know, what's, what's it here for? So you gotta, you gotta use it. You got to take advantage of that technology. And, you know, and as a competitor and as a player, you know, I think it can help you out if you understand how to use it.
After year one, did you have an opportunity to talk to him this offseason or maybe out there in the field today?
Yeah, I had a chance to talk to him a little bit on the field today, you know, offseason, just a little bit. I know that putting in a lot of work, this is an important year for him. But one thing that I can see and he's excited about is the fact that, you know, it's a big, tough team. He got some edges now on defense and defense. and really even personally for me i think that this is an important year for the defense to step up and be a big part of the success and you know you're bringing in a david bailey that's david bailey bringing in bailey man um that's going to change hopefully he's one of those players that that raises the the tide of all the ships in the in the defensive meeting room and so all the players play at a different level similar to like a ray lewis and
and Baltimore back in the day, or even Micah Parsons, what he did for the Cowboys defense when they drafted him and just raised the stakes of everybody around him. I think Bailey can be that person. So I like the way that they look.
