It's not a pool of candidates this year that really blows you away, is it?
No, at least not compared to the last couple years where, you know, Ben Johnson. Ben Johnson was so ascendant that he actually was one of the rare assistants who had never been a head coach who was in position to turn teams down, and he did with the commanders a year before and was like, no, I'm just going to stay up in my cushy job running this potent Lions offense and wait for the right spot. And it seems like he found that in Chicago. But, yeah, I mean, the thing that we just don't know what a lot of these candidates – unless you're sitting at the proverbial table with the interviewers or, I guess, a literal table in this sense. But, yeah, it sure doesn't seem like the NFL is too into the McVeigh lieutenants or some of these other guys who are itching for their first chance to run their own team.
Yeah, we had Nick Faribault on, and he was talking about how the defensive guys under McVeigh haven't been working out. They've sort of become radioactive now. Would you have preferred that the Steelers wait and interview Shula? Because it's becoming clear now that Shula might not get a job here. He's not one of there's only three left. And I don't know that he's high on any of those three teams lists. So this idea that you might have interviewed poorly here seems to be reasonable at this point. He doesn't seem he looked like a hot candidate, Brian, but he's going to be left out in the cold. It looks like.
Well, the Cardinals and Browns, those are two jobs that they might be the jobs in this cycle that some of these assistants are like, eh, maybe I'll wait a year. I've got a pretty good thing going, and I'd rather not incinerate myself and kill my chances of ever being a head coach again because you're laughing, but that's how you get the retread label.
