Everything's great, Jay. Always good to have you on as we get down the stretch. 30 games left. Olympics, there's a lot to cover, and it's a very short period of time.
Bob, you guys have been doing a great job. It's great to talk to both of you.
We appreciate it, Jay. What do you make of the early returns here at the Olympics? Is there going to be an upset along the way, or are we bound for U.S.-Canada for gold?
Well, I certainly hope that's what we get. I can't imagine there's any upset. I can't imagine an upset against any of those two teams. They're both dominating. You can tell when they step on the ice, they just have the attitude about it. They know they're the best teams, and But I guess you should never say never, but I think NBC would be so disappointed if they don't get this, right? I mean, I don't know. It's all building up to that. They set it up to be that way, and it should be that way. But I still expect to see that, guys, and it'll be a great one when they do that.
Which team has looked better, in your opinion?
You know, I don't think – I mean, I think Canada had an easier time to run over teams to get that big separation and goal differential and all that that goes with that. And I think both – I mean, both teams at times have – you know, it's so hard to say because the talent level – and look, they're all players that are playing professional overseas or whatever it might be in a mix. You know, you're walking out on the ice and you have six NHL players going against the whole squad of Canada or U.S.
's
all the elite of the NHL. And so immediately there's that disadvantage right there. How long can you hold on? How long can you do that? I think both teams, Canada and U.S., have both done what they needed to do. And I think Canada, as I mentioned, I think they had an easier track to dominate teams to the degree that they did. And I give it both. They both get five stars, if you ask me, that lead up to where they need to go. And this first game out of this, now this preliminary round, or the next round rather, is going to tell it. But I think both teams have been as advertised, if you will.
Let me ask you about Austin Matthews, Jay. He was named captain of the U.S. team, but he hasn't really played.
What are Jay Caufield's thoughts on the Olympic hockey teams' performances?
He got two goals yesterday, which was important. I mean, how important is he because of what he's capable of doing when they do play? And I think they will play, so we're assuming it's USA-Canada because they need really top-notch goal scoring to match what Canada has. How important is he to them?
Yeah, he's got to be that way, Bob. I mean, if you go back to the Four Nations, he had an opportunity right before that to end it. And number one, Binnington made a great save. And then it goes down, and they highlighted this the other night during one of the games, that he lost McDavid in a play, and McDavid gets the winner. Look, he's your captain. He's got to be the guy that's leading the way, but he's supposed to. He's the goal scorer. And he has to have – look, when you get to that point, By the way, all guys are kind of producing. Their numbers are up. The guys who are expected to score are doing just that. I thought the depth in U.S., the fourth line has done something. But to go back to the Matthews thing, he gets a couple goals.
As long as they're doing that, leading into that game against Canada, then you hope they have a great game. You wouldn't want to see a guy that has the pressure of being the goal scorer, the guy that produces, and be cold coming into that last game.
