Chapter 1: What humorous confusion arises about the term 'bevi'?
Did limits just say a brevi instead of a bevi of things? Yeah, limits. I'm a little bit worried you might have messed up there. It's a bevi, not a brevi? There is no brevi. Brevi's not a word, I don't think. You better check your Malsy Thesaurus.
That's why I added that in.
Because I don't know how to check the thesaurus. Bevi, I think it's B-E-V-V-Y. It's not brevi. Really? Yeah. 24 years on this earth and I always thought it was brevi. Yep. You might have to take a ballsy moochoo while you're at it. It's up there with Zygest now. Zygest? The Zygeist. Now that's an all-timer, Donnie. Donnie football sitting across from me.
It's a Donnie football Friday here at Bowser's Chevy in Monroeville. We get ready for the biggest football game of the year. We have tons of stuff happening with the Steelers. We have a show opening six-pack in honor of Ron Cook. But Ron Cook isn't the guy being honored today, isn't the person being honored today, Donnie. Let's talk about the person we really should be honoring in your life.
My mom is on her final day of work, Joe. So I texted you guys this morning, just asking if I could very quickly give my mom, Lisa, a shout out 40 plus years in the retail world. Wow. And today is her final day. So, uh, big props to her, uh, phenomenal work ethic. Uh, I'm, I'm glad that it brushed off a little bit onto me. Uh, But yeah, well, very, very well deserved.
I know she's got to be buzzing. I would be. I mean, you walk into work on your final day. Oh, that pre quitting elation is the name of it. Yeah, you got to be fired up. So very, very, very happy for my mom. The work. is going to be over. I'm sure she'll get some little side job or whatever she wants to do. But her life in the retail business soon to be done.
And I know that she's been waiting on this day for a long time. Oh, wow. Congratulations, Lisa Football. Congratulations. You raised a fine son named Donnie Football. That is something, really. That makes me, that makes a tear come up, Donnie. All those years. How many kids in your family? Just me and my older sister. Older sister, okay. So she raised, her and your dad raised two fine people.
Although I've never met your sister, I'm just assuming that. My sister's a lot more impressive than me. She was number one in her high school class. I was somewhere in the middle.

Chapter 2: What special occasion is being celebrated in Donnie's life?
She's gone to do actual important things. What does she do? I get the yap about sports. She works in public health. Nice. Yeah. Well, congratulations, Lisa. We hope you have a great workday out there. That's awesome, Donnie. Thank you, Joe. And you know how we're going to celebrate here? With a six-pack, my friend. That's how we're going to do it on a Donnie Football Friday.
And here's where we begin. Aaron Rodgers is inevitable, it would seem. All signs are pointing to him being back as the Steelers quarterback for a second run. Now, could we be surprised? Sure we could. It's Aaron Rodgers. Nothing he would do would surprise anybody, really. But listen to this. From our friend and yours, the big boy, the man that you did some pregame stuff with, didn't you, Donnie?
I did. He wrote a column for the Pat McAfee Show that says things like this. Not only do the Steelers want Rodgers to be their starting quarterback, but officials within the organization believe Rodgers wants to continue playing. Despite telling the McAfee Show last year he was going to retire after this season. At this point, Big Boy writes, the Steelers believe Rodgers will return.
They want him to return and expect to hear something definitive before free agency on March 11th. That'll allow the oldest player in the NFL a little time to definitively make that decision. Meanwhile, Mike McCarthy went on the flagship over there and said of Rodgers, reiterated, quote, I hope he's coming back.
Bob Pompeiani thinks this is kind of a big smokescreen or something, that this isn't going to happen, Donnie. I'm convinced it is. And the hiring of James Campin figures in here, too. I think Schefter reran an old tweet from... Rogers, an old social media post, saying that Campen was like a mentor to him, one of the most important people in his football career.
Listen, I'm not going to be shocked if he doesn't play, but all signs are pointing to this guy coming back, right? Yeah, I mean, it certainly feels that way. And I even was exchanging messages yesterday with somebody who is around the team and covers the team that told me, stop complaining if you don't want him back because he's coming back, period.
So it seems like people are pretty confident that theā The one coach that Aaron Rodgers said he would play for was Mike Tomlin. The Steelers managed to replace him with one of maybe only two that he would still play for. I would think if they would have somehow pulled LeFleur from Green Bay, then maybe Rodgers would have considered playing for him.
But it seems like McCarthy's the only other guy that was a reasonable option that he would actually consider replacing. coming back for. I thought when Tomlin stepped down, Art Rooney had his presser, that felt to me like it would be it. Okay, clean break. Art said pretty confidently, well, Aaron came here for Mike and that's that. They hire Mike McCarthy, and now here we are.
We're turning this baby back up. Tim Benz asking the question very early in the intro press conference the other day, and then it really got off and running because he said what? Yeah, definitely I'd like to have him back. Who wouldn't want to have him back? Yada, yada. So I think all the arrows are pointing there.

Chapter 3: How does the conversation shift to Aaron Rodgers' potential return?
Art said he'd run it back, Art's running it back. Your reaction out there to what Kabaly wrote and to the notion that Aaron Rodgers will be back for another run, the notion of it, we don't know yet. We don't know for sure if this is going to happen yet, but, man, I know Pompeiani doesn't think it'll happen, but it sure looks that way. 412-928-9370. Welcome to Adani Football Friday.

And of course, the Rogers story is accompanied by another one limits and I would like you to crack one in favor of this. Thank you. It's will hard and we have Donnie in here. A tried and true Yinzer, and I mean that as a compliment, Donnie. You're an unbelievable Yinzer.
And I want you to judge who had the better Will Howard, a caller to your guy's show the other day who said I'm a Will Howard guy, or Mike McCarthy. And I suspect that McCarthy, even though he needs no lessons in Yinzerese, really went hard on Will Howard in his news conference to appease the masses.
So, Limits, why don't you play for Donnie the caller and then Mike McCarthy multiple times, and we'll let this man, and there's no better judge that I've ever met, to judge which one was more pure yinzer, the caller or Mike Mack.
I'm a Will Howard guy. I'm a Will Howard guy. I'm a Will Howard guy. I'm a Will Howard guy. I'm really excited about Will Hart. I'm really excited about Will Hart. I'm really excited about Will Hart.
Donnie, do you need another sampling or was that enough to judge?
I'm really excited about Will Hart. I'm a Will Hart guy.
I initially want to go with the caller, Will Hart. He gave it even more. There was no sense of a W. I'm a Will Hart guy. Yeah, there's no W there. There's no W's anywhere in this situation. I feel like McCarthy might have snuck one in a little bit. I feel like I want to go with the caller. Those are a lot closer than what I thought they would be. They might go to penalty kicks here.

Chapter 4: What insights are shared about the Steelers' upcoming draft needs?
Tyler Kennedy brought up yesterday on our show. He said he would deal Miroslav and a first-round pick for Robertson, assuming you can sign him. Would you, Donnie? I would do that. Yeah? If you feel good about what you have between...
Skinner and Shelovs right now, two guys that are still younger goaltenders, if you want to move on from the third guy who you were hoping, you know, would maybe emerge. Yeah. And when we talk first-round picks in hockey, it's not of the same value, I think, to be fair, as, you know, we're talking in football. Right. Yeah.
where maybe there's a generational dude at the very top, but then a lot of people will say it turns into a crapshoot after that, you know, after the first couple of picks. Even then sometimes. That's a reason why we saw a ton, too, during the Jim Rutherford era where ā he would be trading those babies off left and right.
He wasn't really worried about them, and it got them back-to-back Stanley Cups. I would do that. I hear you, and Tyler obviously would. He brought it up. I can't remember what Pomp said. I think Pomp said he would do it, and Limits and I said no. It made me think. I think it's a great question. I just can't give up on that kind of talent and future at 21 years old.
I want Miroshev as my future goalie. I think he's going to be an absolute star. I do get it, though. I get the thinking limits. Are you with me on that? Yeah, I am with you. I would not trade Miroshev.
I just think that for a team that has struggled with goaltending ever since Flory was taken by Vegas and Matt Murray fell apart, if you do have the anchor in net for the next 10 years, I just don't think you can give that up. And I think that Miroshev has that potential.
Me too, but believe me, the more I thought about it, to get a guy, this kid's only 26, Miroshov's 21, Robertson is 26, so I hear them. Give me another one, Limits, if you'd be so kind. All right, Donnie, we still have more to get to coming up next with Patrick Graham, seemingly going to be their defensive coordinator. I know you wanted to get a word on some of these other hires by Mike McCarthy.
Andy Weidel staying. We'll talk about that. But first, before we go, one other item. We're getting real close to pitchers and catchers reporting, my friend. February 11th in Bradenton. Limits and I are trying to combat your show so that we're the ones that get sent this year because I want to play golf in Bradenton. I don't think a show has been sent there in years, right? We haven't gone there.
I thought Pony went there last year. Pony did, but that wasn't like a PM team invite.

Chapter 5: What insights does Garrett Padel share about Mike McCarthy's coaching tenure?
His draft stock, if you look at some of the consensus big boards coming in, down around the fifth round, I think he's He looked like a day two pick to me. He was awesome in coverage. A little bit undersized for a linebacker, but also played the run really well. I thought he was one of the best players on the field at times and really had a great week for himself.
Alan, we appreciate you taking the time today. We'll let you get back to it. Thanks, folks. See you around.
Thanks, Alan.
All right, man. That was good stuff. Yeah, if he wasn't going to mention Kyle Lewis, that's where I was going to go because I had heard and seen some very good things about how he performed this week. I like that music, Donnie, don't you? I do. I don't know if that was just chosen, if that was just the random rotation or if it was just fitting for this segment. I think it is fitting.

Chapter 6: How does Dak Prescott's performance relate to McCarthy's coaching style?
How are you?
I'm great, Joe. Thank you so much for having me on this Friday. I survived the snowstorm in Dallas this past weekend, and now it's okay to be out and about again. We got 40-degree weather, the sun's shining, life is good.
Man, I'll never forget the ice storm in Dallas when the Steelers were there for a Super Bowl and they haven't been back since. And there's mixed reaction here to the Mike McCarthy hire, whether he'll get them back anytime soon. I wanted to ask you, Garrett, from your time covering the Cowboys, how would you grade Mike McCarthy's tenure there and where did it go wrong and why?
That's a great question, Joe. I think I would give Mike McCarthy's tenure with the Dallas Cowboys over five seasons, give him a B to B plus because when he walked in there after over a decade of Jason Garrett, I mean, this was a team that, uh, was in and out of the playoffs, not really consistently making it.
2020 was kind of a weird year with the pandemic, and he hired Mike Nolan, who he used to serve under as a coordinator, as a defensive coordinator, and they were one of the worst defenses in football. But, you know, he cut bait immediately, brought in Dan Quinn in 2021, which also coincided with the first-run draft pick of Michael Parsons. Boom, three consecutive 12 win seasons.
Dak Prescott was the NFL MVP runner up in 2023.

Chapter 7: What are the key takeaways from Bob's interview with Mike McCarthy?
You could argue statistically maybe should have won that award over Lamar Jackson that year. And three straight 12 win seasons for the first time in Dallas since their 1990s Super Bowl glory years. They only won one playoff game in those three trips, which is what a lot of people in Cowboys land wrung their hands about.
And so obviously understand, there's a guy friend of mine, Paul, who's a big Steelers fan. He was kinda unsure about it because of the playoff thing, but they're always scoring a lot of points. They were the number one scoring offense across those three years from 2021 to 2023.
And Dak Prescott, when I've spoken to him about McCarthy over the years, is someone who he felt really helped uplift his footwork and just really command and knowledge of the game running McCarthy's West Coast offense. So I think there are some things to certainly like if you're a Sears fan and Obviously, from listening to his press conference and from talking to him, Dallas loves Pittsburgh.
He had so many stories, bringing Dak in the quarterback room to his parents' house before the 2024 rain-delayed Sunday night football game that Dallas won at the last second. A lot of fun Pittsburgh stories from Big Mike over the years.
So even though Dak Prescott was already into the league for a few seasons, already showing that he was a pretty good quarterback, it sounds like he took that next step with McCarthy. Would you say that's pretty fair to say?
I would say that's fair.

Chapter 8: What impact does Aaron Rodgers' decision have on the Steelers' quarterback situation?
Dak said he felt like he really grew from setting the protection at the line of scrimmage, pass protection before the snap. He felt he really grew as a pre-snap quarterback with Mike McCarthy. And Mike also gave him a lot more control of audibling and changing different things, the line of scrimmage. And so he felt really grew in the more cerebral elements of the game under McCarthy.
And I think you've seen that. I mean, last few years, I mean, look at this past season, right? Dallas was the worst scoring defense in football, but Dak was still top three in the league in passing yards and passing efficiency stats. He was in the top 10 for most of them, despite playing from behind almost
the entire time because the defense was so horrible post Micah Parsons trade and you know I think McCarthy deserves some credit for that development limits you want to weigh in here yeah Garrett I'm curious because there's been some flack on McCarthy because a lot of people think that he's very similar to Mike Tomlin because maybe the offensive version of Mike Tomlin do you think that's fair in your assessment of McCarthy
Austin, you and I had a lovely back and forth on Twitter about this early in the week. And I think there's some fairness to it in terms of, you know, they're very consistent in the type of culture they want to have and the way they approach handling their guys.
I will say that Mike McCarthy in years past, I think, has been maybe a little bit more open to bringing in different defensive minds or coaches who could push him. I think the Dan Quinn hire bringing in somebody who was a former Super Bowl appearing head coach to be his DC. I think that was kind of a big step for him having another kind of big leadership type of guy in the room as an assistant.
So I do think he's evolved in some ways. In some ways, his offensive scheme looks very similar to how it did in years past. I think it's kind of one of those you wait and see, but I think someone who's a little bit more offensive-minded could maybe be a nice change of pace for the Steelers after years of Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin. Who knows?
Garrett, what happened to McCarthy's high-powered offenses in his three playoff losses? I think he had 12 against the Niners, 17 against the Niners, and then just one touchdown in the first half of that horrifying loss to the Packers. What happened?
Yeah, I mean, in the 49ers games, those were some elite defenses. And then the second one they lost in 2022, I think 19 to 12 is what you're referencing. Starting running back Tony Pollard, his fibula exploded in the first half of that game. So the game plan really changed.
in the middle of that one, losing the dynamic dual threat abilities, both catching the ball in the backfield and rushing that Tony Pollard provided in 2022. Yeah, the 2023 loss I was in the building for here in Dallas against the Packers, that to me,
